The advantage of playing only Canadian teams : only one national anthem.
(I never understood the deal with anthems in sports)

DPS to have a hearing with McCann on his elbow to Sanheim’s noggin. I don’t think the elbow was intentional but you gotta be responsible and disciplined with your appendages or you could hurt someone.

To me it DID look intentional, but nothing blatant enough to warrant a suspension. Just a heat-of-the-moment hockey play.

Careless to be sure. I don’t know much of McCann’s history or if he carries a reputation Marchand levels of dirtiness.

I hate to admit it but the Pens’ window closed after 2018. I don’t know why Jim Rutherford thinks they’re still competitive.

However, I know never to count out a team that has Crosby and Malkin on it but their contending window closed. Even both guys can’t carry this team as much as they used to.

Letting go of Murray after one bad season was a mistake and it will haunt the Penguins organization in five years. Way to throw a two-time Cup champ under the bus.

I agree. The Pens have their superstars that are getting up there and are declining in production. Caveat, what can be said about Crosby and Malkin can also be said about Giroux and Voracek, or Ovechkin, Bergeron, Toews and Kane.

That said the Pens are very thin on the depth chart. It’s the Vets, Taniv and a bunch of guys who own ice skates.

And given the past two games, I don’t think Tristan Jarry is ready for a full time starter roll. Giving up 3 goals on 6 shots after pitching a 6 goal outing the previous game is ugly and confidence destroying.

John Marino had a fantastic rookie year. For someone who isn't in the same light as Makar or Quinn Hughes, he's done really well last year and his new contract is well-earned, imo.

Rutherford does have the magic to make stars out of random draft picks (Guentzel) but I think his time is up. His trades and FA signings have been god awful as of late.

I tend to agree with your first two statements but not about Matt Murray. Yeah, he was instrumental in winning those two Cups but in the three years since then he's been remarkably inconsistent. Sure, his won/loss numbers look good on paper, but he was just not steady nor solid for any stretch for most of past three seasons. A couple of great games followed by a couple of stinkers. Although Jarry may or may not be the answer, unloading Murray was the right move according to a large majority of us Pens fans. I sincerely wish the guy well in Ottawa but it was time for a move.

Thought I was pretty clear in my post... Consistently inconsistent for the past three seasons. Add in the fact that he was an RFA looking for a healthy raise over his $3.75million salary, and there you go. (Ottawa gave him that $6 million per year deal because they needed to reach the minimum cap floor... Doubtful he'd have gotten more than $4.5m anywhere else.) From what I'd read on some Penguin insider sites it appeared management had slowly lost confidence in Murray and went with the unproven Jarry.

Regarding Jarry, he looked promising enough last season to go to the All-Star game, although his last third of the season was unspectacular. (So were many of the Pens, too.) Let's not judge the move based on a bad couple of games. As with any trade, time will tell.

After the 2017 Cup, that porous defense was what cost them any post season success since then. No, it wasn't all on Murray, not by a long shot... He had plenty of help. Plus forwards repeatedly missing their backchecking assignments (phil kessel comes to mind) contributed to their descent into mediocrity.

I will never completely count out the Pens to make the playoffs, even if they barely squeak in, as long as 87 and 71 are healthy and still producing points. Once both are gone, that's when we can REALLY say their window is shut for a good while.

I like Guentzel and Marino a lot; definitely the future core but they're going to need a LOT of help to make the team competitive again...whenever that is. Zucker is fine, Tanev is a decent player, Marcus Pettersson isn't too shabby either, but I wouldn't call those guys team-changing pieces. The two Cups are great and ANY fanbase would kill to have the success the Penguins had over the past decade so it's nice to take that as they go into a decline.

That being said, Washington looks like they're on the similar downhill slide too. Holtby hasn't been the same since 2018 and I'm glad he got a fresh start with MY favorite team. Their defense was also very sus. As long as Ovie continues to score like a madman, Washington is still up there.

Three games now, and the Bruins have yet to score a 5-on-5 goal.

It's a small sample size, but they're 1-1-1 on special teams entirely. This was not the expected outcome when getting rid of Krug and Big Z; those moves should have balanced out their even-strength performance.

Time will tell.

Well looks like the NAK line is the only Flyers line that came to play tonight. I turned it off after the second in order to watch a recorded lecture for my Symbolic Logic class. Clearly I’ve got better things to do than watch a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the ******* Sabres

Ha ha!!! Yeah, it was ugly. From the opening face-off, the Sabres played balls to the wall. Out-skated, out-shot, out-passed, and out-hit the Flyers. The Flyers seemed to have come in with the mindset of, "We're 2-0. They're 0-2. Of COURSE we're gonna' win this one."

Vigneault better light a fire under their butts before tomorrow night. Just a pathetic showing by the Flyers. But kudos to the Sabres. They wanted the 2 points and they got 'em...

That was my take too. They took it for granted they were gonna beat BUF and forgot that there was a hockey game on. The Sabres outplayed PHI in every way. Puck battles, forcing turnovers. Buffalo had a team 52.3 CF% compared to the Flyers 47.7 CF%.

This defense has issues and I’m not sure it’s start of season/short training camp/no preseason rust. Braun playing alongside Provy? Hagg and Gus? Probably time to throw the pairings in a blender.

Also loosing Coots hurts. I’m just saying that they are 2-0 with Coultier in the line up and 0-1 with him out of the line up (sarcasm).

NAK Fined for coming up high on Dahlin. Hard to have any sympathy for Dahlin. I’m sure there’s a long memory from the between the whistles Dahlin cross check to TK’s face just after Travis came back from a concussion.

It SEEMED like the 52.3 to 47.7 CF% was even wider (in Buffalo's favor). Gustavson was terrible last night. I know everybody is down on Hagg, but at least he's willing to throw the body around. I think they'll just about have to give Ghost another shot once he can come back.

And yeah, I hope Couturier heals quickly...
