Stupid Leafs.... yah, think of it as a preemptive strike!lol
Folks in town are pretty pi$$ed off with the effort or lack there of, by the Leafs throughout this playoff walk. I've even started thinking about how many 1st rounders the Leafs can get for Matthews!

Was actually discussing with my brothers about a Matthews, a prospect or two, and a draft pick or 2 to Chicago....
I don't see the Leafs play more than a half-dozen times per year, usually on the Saturday night HNIC broadcast carried by NHL Network on occasion. So I might be wrong based on limited exposure, but Matthews plays softer than any 6'3" 200+ lb guy in the league. Rarely seems to put his size to good use like an Ovechkin or Draisaitl.
We had a guy in Phoenix many years ago like that. Deron Quint...6'2" 220lbs, but could be nudged off the puck by pretty much any other player in the league regardless of stature.

By all appearances, at no time in his playing career has Matthews been taught to check. Sticking your lower unit out on a fly by does not constitute checking.
What's really gnawing at me is the Leafs "core four" are all soon to be coming up to contract negotiations and each will spew about how they performed during the regular season hoping to maximize pay. It will take a large set of nads for the management to hold out for lower compensation to this group, based on playoff performance... or lack there of! They need to understand or even care that the whole point of playing professional hockey is to win the Stanley Cup.

To add to that... I recall a few years ago in a similar NHL thread, a member here is insisted that time of possession beats out desire in the playoffs. I argued that heart wins cups. I still think I am correct. The core four of the Leafs lack heart. I don't believe heart is something you can coach.

Think JT still has the heart and desire, but maybe no longer the legs. Skating was never his forte....I think Marner has too much, he is trying to do more than he should, he needs to calm down and play his game. Matthews, yeah, I see no heart, no spark. Sure he is a great player, just ask him. As for The Enigma, sadly I see Willy as playing the best of the core four in this series. And that is the problem, he should not be....
The Panthers win game 4 for the sweep-except they forgot they had to actually play the game. Congrats Leafs on a pretty decent showing(from a Panthers fan).

Interesting to read the thoughts on Matthews. I've felt that way about him as well, but figured I'd be ridiculed as a Crosby fanboi if I said it.

Bit better, was impressed with Woll. He has played very well when used this year, the Leafs may have actually (for the first time in decades) developed a goalie. But asking for 3 more like that is quite a task. Not sure how much gas Giordano has left in the tank.
No, they can't. Leafs fans, we feel your pain.Massive props to the Leafs. They came to play, and delivered a full 60-minute effort, with stifling defense.
Big question is, can they do it three more times though?

Had a gig last night. All the TVs in the bar were on bassetball and pasture pool. Found out Panthers won later.
Pretty hard to get a good tee time though...the Leaf players seem to get all the best times.
