The Flyers are toast. Virtually all the teams right behind them have games in hand. They exceeded all expectations this season, but unfortunately, they've begun their collapse at the most inopportune time.

The good news is that they finally have the two Russian goaltenders in their system here in the States. Fedotov is now active on the Flyers, and Kolosov is with Lehigh Valley. Hopefully next year will continue their improvement.

Pens pick up a much needed win in DC, allowing only one goal to Ovechkin in a 4-1 win. And that goal came when Erik Karlsson was 12' away in the high slot doing who-knows-what while leaving the one of most potent goal scorers completely alone at the edge of the goal crease. But that was about the only blemish on an otherwise positive night. Sid & Geno were left off the scoresheet, but a couple of goals from unlikely sources were nice to see.

Becoming quite a logjam in the Eastern Wild Card race. This season is finally interesting to us Pens fans, and even though it might be too little too late, it's still fun nonetheless.

Carolina beat the B's last night in Boston. It was a very tight, very playoff-like game. Carolina's Svechnikov had a Michigan goal to score the first goal midway through the 2nd. It was the first Michigan I can remember against the B's and the first that Swayman has given up in his career. Carolina goalie, Kochetkov, made a great save on a redirected puck in front of the net by catching it in his armpit - another thing that you don't see everyday and more evidence that NHL players are insanely skilled all-around athletes.

B's close out the season with Pittsburgh, Washington and Ottawa in that order. The first two may determine the last Eastern Conference wild card spot.

Yeah, I'm bummed about it but I can't disagree that the league needed to do something about this never-ending situation here. Just wish this had occurred about three years ago when the team was basically a roster of AHL players and unwatchable. These past two seasons (and this season especially) they were a lot of fun to watch and root for.

Does anyone really know what to make of this Bruins team? Sometimes I can't tell if they're purposely taking their foot off the gas pedal. Other times they look great against top-teams. For sure, this team is a different makeup than last year's record breakers. I think moving on from Bergeron and Krejci was a necessary progression. Curious to see if the current, grittier approach serves them better this playoff season. Just can't always tell if they're playing the way they want to or not.

Based on last night's game, looks like they are trying to jockey for an easier first round opponent....

Absolutely. I rarely root for the B's but last night was an exception, as I needed Washington to lose in regulation. Other than McAvoy and Swayman, was any of them playing at full speed? Pastrnak certainly wasn't, and Marchand's weak giveaway that allowed the Caps to seal the deal was embarrassing.

What really made me mad was they sure played hard the night before in Pittsburgh, beating my Pens and hurting their miniscule chance of seeing the post-season.

And tonight, I have to root for the frickin' Flyers! Oh nooooooooo...

Good question about the B's. I've watched most of the games and I don't have a real good answer. They have delivered some stinkers this year - maybe 1 every 3 or 4 weeks, but fewer than ladt year.. I don't think the Washington game was a stinker, but more Washington desperation and some excellent goaltending. It was a suffocating tight game (B's only had 16 shots) and while the B's are better equipped physically to play that game this year, it still can effectively neutralize our speed.

At the start of the game, the B's honored announcer Jack Edwards who will retire after this season. I will miss him and wish him all the best.

It did. They had more like 22 shots in the third. I forget how many the Sens had, but it was just 1 last time I was paying attention.

They're playing very unevenly lately, but given the way they crushed it at the end of last season and still bowed out in the first round? I'm not that worried. Whatever will be, will be.
