NHL Season 2023-24

Just my two cents, but it appears all that media attention is going to Matt Rempe's head. Wouldn't answer the bell last night with MacDermid, who was looking for retribution over the dirty hit on Bastian a few games ago. But Rempe wouldn't drop the gloves. Then, later, he cheap shots another Devil, and once again, skates away, running his mouth at the Devils' bench. Kid needs to learn the code of an NHL enforcer if he's going to stick around.
I'm happy to report that this post did not age well with regard to DeBrusk. He has 2 goals and 1 assist in the 3 games after the deadline including the game winner in OT last night in Montreal off of a perfect pass from He Who Must Not Be Named on the TB NHL Thread. The B's goaltending, defense, and top scorers are pretty consistent, but that will only take them so far. To go deep they need guys like DeBrusk to find a way to contribute every night.
Sid has a nice 4 point game (1g 3a) as the Pens jump out to a 4-0 lead in Colorado.
Then, as the recurring theme has been this season, the Avalanche score five unanswered goals, winning it in OT. Yet another Pens' loss snatched from the jaws of victory.

These are my two favorite teams and thus my dream cup matchup. Fortunately I had to work Sunday so I missed this game.
Begs the question: who can we trade or release to buy some better goal tending? Is there even anyone in the pipeline? Had high hopes for Ned but yikes he's no good either.
I saw part of that game and thought about posting that comment. Dunno if I have the right to do so-as a Panthers/Lightning fan-but that hadda hurt.
As much as I bang on Jarry (and deservedly so), in all honesty he's only part of the problem. Karlsson is even worse than I remembered at playing actual defense, and Letang isn't much better. At least 58 puts in the effort, EK doesn't even seem to care if he gets burnt. They really should move EK to right wing and get an actual D-man to cover that vacancy.
Ned looked pretty good despite the four goals allowed (one let in by Jarry while Ned was being checked out after a collision to the head). Jarry can be the best goalie in the league one period, then reverts to being unable to stop a beach ball the next. Rumors before the trade deadline had him possibly being dealt and going with Ned the rest of this season. But looks like we're stuck with his inconsistency and his $5.2M salary the next four seasons.
If the Pens want to keep playing players who were really good in 2009, they should at least charge 2009 prices for tickets and snacks while at the game.

Yeah, well, at least you have the post season. And a passionate fan base. And an arena that doesn't feel like an '88 Buick. Not the indifference and ennui that's been here for the last fourteen seasons.
A couple weeks back, the local fish wrap was excited because if we won the next two games, we'd only be three points out of a wildcard spot. I commented that that was like saying that if I could come up with $7, I'd only be $3 dollars away from purchasing a $10 item.
And why am I just hearing about the theft of 18,500 Jaromir Jagr bobble head dolls stolen en rout to a game giveaway? #insidejob?

Well, the Leafs tried to give away a 5-1 lead in the third period last night to the Panthers. Fortunately for the blue and white, Matthews would not have any of it!

After two-plus seasons of frustration and consistently coughing up late leads, the Penguins finally turned the tables in New Jersey last night. Once again, Nedeljkovic stood on his head, keeping the Pens in it until the skaters woke up. And wake up they did! Down 3-1 after two lackluster periods, the black and gold scored FIVE third period goals to shock the Devils 6-3.
If you listen closely, the Pens' playoff hopes are registering a tiny murmur where there was a complete flatline recently. Still a big longshot, but at least they're making it interesting. Beating the Caps on Thursday would really help.
