I don't understand why Minnesota paid some guy more money than any other NHL player ever when this guy gets injured and doesn't play a full season, doesn't lead the league in anything important, and has never won a playoff series. I have no idea who this guy is, and while my interest in the NHL has been on the decline, seems like I would at least recognize the name of the highest paid ever player in the NHL.
That's a clear indicator to me the guy signing checks in Minnesota doesn't have a clue what he is doing.

It's hard to be a sports fan (of any sport in Minnesota and I live in another state!) and watch what goes on. I wouldn't have been that upset if we had traded him and had some money to build a team. Like I said, when he's healthy he's great, but so are lots of other players.

In my humble opinion, kind of ridiculous for a guy who despite scoring 40 goals several times, never manages to play a full season, and never has taken his team out of the first round. In other words, the Wild haven't done much while paying him $9M, what are they expecting to be different now that they're paying him nearly double that? As we've seen in the Toronto business plan, it lessens their ability to bring in a decent supporting cast. Florida spreads the wealth around and wins Cups, as did Pittsburgh during their Cup winning days. But nowadays these superstars are demanding and expecting nearly a fifth of the team's payroll for themselves.

Boldy had a beautiful goal last night. If he could have a good season and Kaprizov stays healthy and we get some good goaltending from Gustavsson...maybe we have a shot.
I hate to say it, but I really look at this as a condition of the player holding the team over the barrel
I'm pretty sure him and his agent told the team they would not sign any extension unless it was this big grandiose contract, leaving the team holding the bag with no player no extension and having to go from there

Chicago do not win their first one, no points for Bedard, but some optimism anyway. For now.
One year ago, the Rangers opened in Pittsburgh, and trounced the hapless Pens 6-0 in their own building.
Yesterday, the Penguins open in Madison Square Garden, top the Rangers 3-0. Silovs the shutout in his first start for the Pens.
Not making any parade plans just yet, but when every pundit picks your team to be 31st in the league, any win is a cause for celebration. Especially opening night, on the road, against a better team.

I hope it wasn't for any negative reason. Maybe just working him back in to the regular season. And they really didn't need him last night.

Dunno how many of y'all saw-or heard about-the Lightning/Panthers game Saturday night, but it was a disgusting example of p!ss-poor sportsmanship I've seen in years. Exactly the kind of 'stuff' the league says they're trying to curtail.

But I read about it afterwards. Pretty disgraceful stuff. A real sour note to end the pre-season on before kicking off a new year for the league.
I'm thinking Malkin ends up a Panther by the trade deadline. His time is, has been, up in Pittsburgh, and a story I saw on ESPN says the Panthers need a C. Although I hope they don't expect him to be a #1.
Maybe they can then convince Jagr to come back and play with him. Now that would be rad. Ooo, what about Datsyuk or Zetterberg too.

McDavid signs an extension, then Kyle Connor signs, then Jack Eichel signs. With all these potential free agent being re-upped before they get to free agency, what are all those rumor sites going to write about?

I'm surprised the Wild had money left after Kaprizov to Gustavson a 5 year.
I'm happy today. The Avs start at 8 instead of 9 or 9:30. And since I have ESPN+ now I can watch!
