No money no bass...

Trade something (cell phone, game system, bicycle, etc) or pick up odd jobs for either a business or neighbors. If in a neighborhood, offer your services for $20/hr: help move furniture, lawn work, painting - sometimes people just need a hand with some stuff and don't have anyone to call to help them.

Next bump it up a notch - go to local businesses asking if they need any part time help - even just a couple hours per week. Some places might again find tasks for you to do once a week. Find a few businesses to do chores for, and you'll soon be earning $30/week.

It shouldn't take too long to scrape together $100 using the above three methods. Just note - the thing you don't want to do is steal stuff. Just like it will take hard work and savings to get the money together to buy the bass, people have worked hard for their stuff too.

anyway ... to answer your question ... Work .. !!

i mowed lawns , washed cars , shoveled snow , painted , cleaned carpets , washed dishes , rake leaves , etc . etc . ... crap jobs that did Pay Cash ... then buy equipment , ... play some gigs = $$ , while still doing those crappy jobs during the daylight hours ... !! there are lots of hours in the day that can be used wisely ..

I'll add Invalid Link Removed to the list as (like Zzounds) they don't require a line of credit or a credit check for 3-payment plan purchases. Here's a link to the details: Invalid Link Removed. The cheapest bass they offer with a payment plan is a $150 Dean Hillsboro (I know nothing about this bass, but hey, it looks cool!). So if you have a debit or credit card (or a friend or relative with one who is willing to work with you) and can afford $50/month for three months, then you'll have a bass. Up front. In a couple of days. It works like a reverse layaway in that you receive the merchandise upfront and then pay it off over the course of X number of months.

You'll need a bass amp as well, of course, but if money is tight, start out with a bass (which you can at least practice on unplugged) and then rock another payment plan if necessary for an amp.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt and assume you actually are working but have to take care of other bills, etc and don't have any disposable income. Whatever you do, DO NOT take the advice of buying something from a retailer with a payment plan. If you can't make the payment (which seems likely since you have little money to begin with), you'll have to return the bass AND screw up your credit rating. Bad idea.

Just scrape together what you can, when you can, and look on CraigsList. On our local CL, there is a no name P bass with a 15 watt amp listed for $100. One could probably get it for $75. Teach yourself how to do a setup and it might well be decent enough to play until you can buy better.

deliver newspapers, wash dishes in restaurant, work as kitchen aid, go shopping for older persons who don't can go well outdoor, make babysitting, make ironing service for persons who don't have time for it, go for a walk with animals, shoe cleaning service, etc. etc...there are so many possibilities for a mini Job..even if they pay only 10$ /hr or minor..even with 4 hours per week some of these minijobs...between 2 weeks until 8 weeks you have enough money earned to spend for used Bass, Amp, Cables and Headphone...

There are many, many ways to make enough money to buy a bass. Unfortunately, playing in beginner bands....probably isn't one of them. You need a bass, you need strings, you need a cable or two, you need an amp, you need...heck, if you wanna keep the overall budget low, you should log off now, 'cause if you hang around here long enough we're gonna eventually make you "need" a $5,000 bass. Or half a dozen of 'em.

The best way to become a millionaire in the music business is...start with 2 million. It's an old joke, but true in a lot of ways.

How cheap is "super cheap"? When I was young, I couldn't even swing $50 for a bass.

The best way is probably to have someone loan you one.

You can do it all on cl. Find a short-term job listing, day or two work for a few dollars. Then check the MI section for a beater under $100. When you need an amp, lather, rinse, repeat and pick up a Peavey TNT or TKO with a 15" speaker, also can be got sub-$100 with patience. For less than $200, perhaps even close to $100, you have everything you need to make some noise, even play in a band or jam with others... despite what some say, music isn't about money. It's passion and practice.
