The OP made his apparently very tight financial situation the issue in his post. The question is somewhat like saying "my kitchen is on fire right now. What color backsplash would look good with my countertops?" Most people would answer "get out of the kitchen or put out the fire". It's just natural human response to crisis. But what about that backsplash?

If you state that you cannot afford the cheapest bass it probably means one of two things. Either you are supported by somone else and have no income, or you have an income but also have a very tight budget. There is nothing whatsoever elitist about infering one of these problems exist and offering an opinion on how to solve it. In the end, all the advice leads toward the OP obtaining the bass he is seeking.

Totally missed my point, but then again, of course the point was going to be missed. OP did not ask, how do I make money to buy a bass, he asked how to find a super cheap bass. It is the sleeper mentality to answer " get a job" . And obviously the sleepers far outweigh the awake. That is just how it is. I was being far more productive mentioning $40 beat up peavys on Craigslist and $60 ones at GC, than simply being an ass and ASSuMEing about the OP and critisizing him and telling him to get his life in order. All of you have no friggen clue what his situation is, but you are all quick to project your economic views and try to convince him to drink the same purple cool aid and eat the same soylent green that you all so faithfully eat and drink.

It is amusing how much the concept of "get a job and buy a bass" is offensive to some around here.

Not offended by the concept, but annoyed by the assumption. There are a lot of elitist upper middle folk on this board who live in areas with low cost of living where oodles of dicretionary income is available. Nobody knows OPs situation, yet everyone assumes "get a job" is the simple answer. There is no living wage in many parts of the country, and even around here it takes 2 full time slightly above minimum wage jobs just to pay rent in a studio apartment.

But all of you project your mindset on everyone else. I am not offended by it, but I find it highly annoying and ignorant. Red Elephants for sure...

I'm quite lost on all the vitriol coming from some people. The OP didnt ask for free stuff. He asked for suggestions on finding a cheap bass, for what ever reason he wants to spend the bare minimum. Maybe hes a kid, Maybe he has a family to take care of, Maybe he just doesn't want to invest a lot into it.

People used to say the machines in Michigan wouldn't take any cans that hadn't been sold by that store, but I beg to differ. My glorious ex-wife once took a bag full of old beer cans from my childhood collection to the recycling machines, and it was paying 10 cents a whack for dead brands last produced in the mid 1970s. Maybe they've changed things since I left, but it used to be a lucrative racket for folks from adjacent states.

Many of the posts have been at least attempting to be helpful and constructive.

You seem to be content with insults and vitriol. By setting yourself above everyone in the way that you do, I think you miss the profound irony of the entire situation.
