No shorts in gig contract

If the contract or booking agreement says no shorts, and you agree to it, AND you're a pro then you honor what you agreed to and you don't wear shorts. It's not any more complex than that.

It is well known in polite circles that nobody will pay attention to what a man will say if he does not wear trousers. (Pants are worn by women and sailors).

I don't even own a pair of shorts. There's a social contract I'm honoring here when I don't subject you to the sight of my blindingly white legs.
Outside of the aforementioned beach type gig I gave up wearing shorts on stage many years ago.
I'm comfortable in my standard stage duds these days.

OTH lots of big name players wear shorts and even sandals all the time. Bob Weir and John Mayer come to mind. I'm not quite there yet

Seeing that I'm an adult most times, no issues.
Seeing that occasionally I'm not, depending on how anal the contract was.......I'd wear a dress, and pearls.
I wear shorts at work because I now work in an outdoor garden center.
Downside is the only footwear I own comfortable to wear on concrete all day and are also waterproof are my Red Wing work boots, which are a bit tall, so I mostly look like a UPS or FedEx guy
And I also have a tanline 1/4 the way up my calf. Probably wouldn't even want to wear shorts on stage at this point. People would probably zero in on what they thought were the white fuzzy crew socks I chose to wear.

The seabreeze only does so much! I've done enough deck and dock gigs. We had a couple "no shorts" gigs. I'd take two pairs of thin khaki trousers and a couple shirts. Change between sets and hang the wet ones on a rack to dry. Change at the next break. Repeat as necessary. And bring fans!

I was never good with irrational rules. If the "no shorts" policy served a purpose over asthetic reasons I'd be fine....but.....
I guess I have too much rock and roll in me still..... I live to push the envelope.
Hot day at an outdoor gig....dress or casual shorts and polo or untuck short sleeve shirt. Still looks nice and no one has ever complained
If you were the party accepting the contract I don’t think the people paying you would care what you thought about it one way or another. “Offer, negotiation, tender, acceptance.” - that’s what a contract is all about. And also how it works.

Yep you are correct. And as long as the contract was not violated, in which it wasn't (or wouldnt) with my stellar wardrobe choice, I think all would be just fine.
