I played mandolin in a Celtic band. I'm no stranger to kilts.

Uniform shorts work if you also wear a pith helmet

I play lots of outdoor festivals in California during the summer (I did one a couple of weeks ago in Discovery Bay with the temp at 105!), and if that stipulation is not in the contract, I usually wear nice khaki shorts, along with a collared short sleeve shirt. Several weeks ago, I did one where I got lots of compliments on how sharp I looked, and also complaints about the singer, who was wearing long pants and a wife beater.

Not that I like dudes legs, but seeing the pic, they may have wanted to do a "no short" dress contract as well. I am sure she is a nice person, but she doesn't have the body to dress like that...

Im usually in the "no shorts" camp. But about two weeks ago, we played a gig at a local club. This was during the heatwave in the midwest. The temperature during that evening was in the upper 80s at start time, around 9pm. Heat index was in the upper 90s to around 100.

And the place had NO air conditioning.

I only live about 5 minutes away from the place. At the end of the first set, I was so drenched from the sweat that I couldnt move. My pants were even soaked, I drove home and changed clothes.

I've modified my feelings on shorts on stage now!

Keep away from drunken old ladies with cold hands is my advice...

I got married in a kilt. Keep away from drunken wedding guests with cold hands as well. I got tons of compliments on how cool they looked. A friend of mine makes kilts for a living - and does quite well!
