Noble Amps Preamp

I had read an earlier post that someone had sent their Noble in and had the corner frequency reduced to 60 Hz.

A custom "fixed" corner hardly seems useful since the requirements of HPF settings rely on each specific scenario where you are playing. Much easier to use a simple HPF pedal to get exactly what you need -- each time.

Jack modded mine to be around 60 or 70 hz a few years ago. I really like it now.
The kind folks at Bassed posted this some time ago making me wonder about asking for a lower HPF corner in my Noble order. Basically, I'd like a "five string" switch to tame the B string when I go with a fiver. Perhaps Carson can illuminate us on the results and his use case?

I see. This is absolutely not needed. As I said above, it will handle any bass acoustic or electric no matter how many strings flawlessly. I don’t even like to practice without my Noble. And I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I assure you that you’ll be impressed as is.

I’ve lost the exact number of the HPF frequency on the switch, but whatever it is, it’s s little too high for my taste. I would love to have it set at 80, but not sure how complicated or expensive that might be.

Jack told me a few years ago that the low cut switch drops 6dB/octave below 90Hz. So in terms of being a "HPF," the knee is fairly high. I've read comments here about flipping that switch on and boosting the lows, which is interesting but not always my cup of tea. But for many if not most HPF requirements, 90Hz is way too high. Anyhoo, I feel having an adjustable HPF is far more useful than a fixed knee at 80 or even a bit lower. It all depends on the room etc.

I just took a peak... Its backordered 48 weeks.... Or for $900ish extra you can get 1 week service.... I totally appreciate the struggle that builder is dealing with trying to keep up...

For some people, this is the premium to pay for the lure of a hand-crafted product made by someone who loves his creation and resists selling out to the world of "scale=more=profit" with CNC-based automated manufacturing. I just like how it sounds.

I think you're noticing the difference in intention between a corrective filter and a simple, fantastic sounding tone circuit.
To me, the Noble is more in the Pultec camp than a surgical EQ, and the LF section can give you a similar curve if you want it. Thank goodness for that.
