Noble Amps Preamp

I do treat my gear with a lot of caution but not because I am anxious, I know most gear is well built and can take it. But I just take a lot of pleasure to see that my gear still looks brand new while I have intensively used it.

Your board looks cool, but with 56 knobs, 20 switch buttons, and one swell pedal -- how do you have time to play bass?

Hahaha
It is a studio experimental board so that I have plenty of options to create ambiance and unusual sounds if I want to. It is not meant to be tweaked all the time when I play.
I have a much smaller board for rehearsals and gigs.

Not sure about a mod; you'd have to ask Jack Roan about bumping it down from 90hz. I solved this problem by putting an Fdeck HPF Series 3 Mini in front of the Noble so it's a variable HPF for whatever is needed. Even 80hz won't be low enough for some scenarios.
You disabled the existing 90Hz filter, yes? Otherwise you have now cascaded two HPFs, and that will move the -3dB point even higher, not lower. The response slope will then be steeper though, so it could be a perfectly valid solution depending on your expectations. You might want to do an RTA to confirm or deny this, which only takes freeware and a sound interface to do very quickly.

Yes, I keep the Noble's filter in the "off" position. It was always too high for my taste. I know there are several here who like to enable it and boost the bass signal, but that's not for me either. Frankly, I like sending the Noble's signal flat into the PA. The balanced sound is best to my ears.

That board is BEAUTIFUL. I'm such a fan of how tidy everything is, and all the pedals look fresh!

I REALLY love this. I need to plug my bass into my microcosm more often.

I was thinking about getting something that would self oscillate as a fun noise machine on stage - pairing that with a digitech whammy to then make crazy sounds and play with pitch. How do you use it?

Jack modded mine to be around 60 or 70 hz a few years ago. I really like it now.

Thanks.
I usually play chords, have the microcosm do its thing then I lock it with the right switch and I play over it.

Hi folks - I wanted to post this here to see if anyone has any advice. I bought a Noble off Reverb that was made in June 2024…basically new. Looks great and sounds great bot for the first 5 mins only. After that a horrible static / hiss / popping sound starts and it gets worse if I turn the treble knob or the volume knob. It came with spare tubes so I tried changing them and get the same result. I have emailed Jack to get his advice but wanted to ask the group. I have a video of the sound if anyone wants to hear it. Thanks.

1. How was it packaged?
2. Any visible evidence of an impact on the outside of the box?

Assuming from your description that the problem is heat-related, I'm guessing a solder joint let go, or a micro crack in a PCB etch was created, or (less likely) a screw at a grounding point came loose, something along those lines.

Hate to be a hard-ass, but the "long view" is that this is no one's problem to solve but the seller's.

from the website:

Q) What is the warranty period?
A) Five year warranty to any owner. The warranty remains valid even if the preamp is sold or ownership is transferred. The preamp is guaranteed to be free from defects in components and workmanship for 5 years from the date of manufacture and should not require servicing other than occasionally changing the tubes if they become noisy.

Hi - it was packaged in the factory box and there was no evidence of impact / damage. I have exchanged messages and sent the video to Jack and he thinks there is a failed component and wants me to send it to him for a warranty repair...so at least it's covered. However, I am kind of agreeing with you, it shouldn't be my issue and I shouldn't have to deal with it. Now my quandary is whether to ask for a full refund, or ask for a partial to cover shipping both ways plus a little extra for taking my time to solve his issue. I really want it, but they come up periodically so it's not earth shattering to return it and wait for another one.

If it was packaged only in the factory box, rather than double-boxed with cushioning between the two boxes, then IMO the seller owns the problem. If it was double-boxed with cushioning material, then I believe the seller behaved responsibly and we should chalk it up to "s__t happens". In the latter case, if I were the buyer, I'd eat the cost and time to repair as a goodwill gesture.

This mole hole is becoming a mountain. Just send it back to Jack and he'll take care of it. I've dealt with him since 2016 when I bought my Noble. Once it had to go back for a tweak. Other times I had technical questions. In each and every occurrence, Jack has been a true professional and gentleman in taking personal interest and prompting resolving / answering the issue. As this comment notes, "s__t happens" occasionally to no one's particular fault. OP will be up and running quickly, and will then be asking: "Why didn't I get a Noble sooner!?"

sorry to hear about the malfunctioning Noble. Interesting to hear about a possible component failure, but I guess it's just a box of parts, so the "s**t happens" rule applies. I have beat mine up for several years with no issues what-so-ever so I feel they are pretty stoutly built. Sounds like it's either a seller issue to resolve, or send it off to Jack for a repair. He's very responsive in my experience.

good luck on the repair

Hey guys, I have Noble serial number 002 up for sale if anyone's interested!
