Noble Amps Preamp

I just got a new Stingray Classic. Amazing bass. The Noble allows me to do a nice trick with it. I don't boost the bass on the Stingray too much past the middle and I keep the treble a little under the middle. Essentially the classic Midrangey Sade sound that allows for a lot of low mids so you sound clear in the mix.

On the Noble I boost the bass a bit to 9 o clock and the treble to 8. That gets the tone a little more big and modern without losing the mids. Essentially it is the best of both worlds. If you keep the knobs on the Stingray conservative, you get amazing mid range, and the Noble EQ is so responsive, that boosting a bit on it will not scoop the mids back out.

I have a question about the Noble DI. I'm currently using a Tone Hammer DI. I have a Pedulla Hexabuzz (nickel strings) and a Tacoma 5 string acoustic with flats. I play mostly at church and go direct but play some with a rock trio with friends. I've read through the forum (but may have missed it!?!) does anyone have experience with active basses or acoustics through the Nobel? I'm thinking it's going to sound great and worlds better than my Tone Hammer, but I just wanted to throw the question out there before I ordered. Also, I'm thinking about going for NOS for tubes -- is that buy up option worth it? Thanks!

Nice to hear someone using the Noble with a Stingray! Since most guys are using Precisions and I've seen a few active basses mentioned in this thread, Stingrays... not so much! I just ordered the Noble and predominately play Musicman basses. While I'm sure most any bass will sound good through the Noble, it is nice reassurance to know that my Stingrays & Sterlings should sound killer as well. Don't worry, I always have my '75 P to fall back on for that tried and true winning combination.

It sounds fantastic to be honest. I think the problem people have with Stingrays is they overboost the EQ on the bass and then disappear in the mix or sound clanky. My opinion on the classic Stingray sound is that less boost is more. For the classic Ray sound you just can run into the Noble flat. To get a little more modern, just boost the Noble EQ a little. You won't lose your mids that way and will still be able to thicken the tone.

Good to hear!! I understand about people overboosting the EQ and while it's easy enough to achieve the clank with a Stingray... that's not my thing. I don't have a Stingray Classic, but my all Rosewood neck Singray is already a little warmer than the typical Stingray. They should pair together nicely... and now... try to patiently wait for Jack to build my Noble.

I have a mix of passive and active (Sadowsky pre) basses. Both work amazingly well through the Noble. You'll love it!

Just signing onto this thread because I'm very interested.

I love the fender thing. I gigged a '77 Bassman 100 for a long time, and have a TBP-1 preamp I've been using for a little while now. I pretty much use none of the bazillion features on my TBP-1. Just the "vintage" channel. I also had an Alembic F1x for a minuet,,, anyway, this little box looks like it would pretty much do that thing for me, while also doing a couple other things.

I'm not really a "pedal" guy, and don't see this box as a pedal, but seems like it's kind of geared that way, and I'm imagining some cool possibilities. Especially since I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on a Quilter BB800.

I really liked the sound of the quilter. It has a direct in on the back that bypasses everything except the master, so making it into a very small, and affordable 800w power amp.

Big thanks to @jondiener who clued me in on setting up an alert here on TB. He helped me set it up for the word "Noble" and woke up to an alert yesterday morn. I was second in line but the first guy passed, sooooo.....It's Kool-Aid time!!

No this won't work. I think Jack said it is because they are not isolated. He does have a really sweet work around for noble owners. Send him an email and he will hook you up!

I was in the studio yesterday doing some preproduction. Until then I've mainly played my 5 string Nordy P bass with flats through the Noble and have only ever recorded with this combo. It's a winning combination for sure.

Several of the tunes yesterday called for a different tone so I broke out my Alleva Coppolo LG5 and my 6 String Fodera emperor standard. I was really happy with the tones. I was able to pull a fat growly tone from the LG5 by cranking the Nobles bass control with the HPF on while the fodera gave a nice rock p bass vibe using the neck pickup and slightly less bass boost from the noble. All in all I was stoked with the tones.

Hopefully some of you can report back on similar tones from non p basses. So many Noble owners seem to favour the p but it's just such a versatile piece of gear that all our basses deserve a go!
