non-funk envelope filter

Boss Syb3 or 5. Love mine.

Yeah ... I was surprised by how good the SYB-3 filter was when I tried it again recently. Probably my favourite Envelope Filter (over the Proton and the Enigma, can't get the Enigma to do what I want at all, Proton is pretty nice though).

Also really enjoy my Mooer sweeper. For some reason I don't really class that along with other EF's, the built in distortion gives it such a distinctive tone, and may suit the OP's need for a non-funk tone.

Grab something with a resonance control, and keep it turned down pretty low. This will give you a cool filter sound without the quack.

In addition to this, control over the attack/decay. Most "funky" filters have a fast attack to snap to the filter travel peak quickly. Slow down the filter travel, lower the resonance, and now you have a more mellow filter. Stick an octave+square-fuzz in front of it, and now you have a really synthy sounding slow moving filter.

But with all of those controls you can probably dial in a perfectly awesome funky filter at the same time.

I have a bunch of filter sound clips on my various effect pages o my site. Check my signature below.

My all-time favorite envelope filter is still the Chunk Systems Octavious Squeezer. Total control over the analog filter parameters, but saved in presets. Everything from funky to synthy and more. Used, it's not much more expensive than other high-end filters. Though the programming can take a while to master as the UI is totally non-intuive.
