Got the tuner holes drilled out. The holes on the template were 6mm so I needed to enbiggen them to 10mm, which went ok apart from the last hole which wandered a bit, annoyingly.
So I plugged the last hole. If anyone has any bright ideas about how to redrill this one in the right place, I'm all ears!

Make a template that has 10mm pins which stick in the holes which are correctly located?
That's a good shout, I could use a couple of 10mm drill bits as locating pins! Good idea.

Yeah it's borderline. With the tuners installed it wasn't really noticeable, but with a straight edge against them you could see the end one was about 1mm or so off line. I know it would've bugged me if I didn't fix it, so better to do it now than later!
Got the hole redrilled. Here's the jig I made, pretty simple but effective.
Bang in line now. You can just see the thin sliver of the oak plug left behind, this will be covered by the tuner washer.
I also got the fretboard sanded up to 320 and put a coat of osmo oil, should be ready to put some frets in next week.

Also, I was machining up some walnut for a kitchen at work the other day. Some of it had some quite nice figuring in it.
Waddayaknow, this bit just happened to end up as an off cut, so I managed to resaw it on my bandsaw. Score!

Nice looking piece of walnut
It wants something like an Alembic or Ken Smith shape to catch as much of that figuring as possible
When I worked in a cabinet shop, we'd divert pieces like that with full approval all the time. For the most part, we were looking for pretty uniform looking pieces without wild grain for the cabinetry and millwork jobs. Nice score!
Got the ends filed flush and beveled them with a janky jig. Should be able to start the neck carve soon.
I managed to get the back of the neck thicknessed today. Kind of a poor man's router planing jig.
I got as far as marking out the primary facets using masking tape. Might actually get the shinto out tomorrow.

They had run out of flamingo pink!
Started on the neck carve today. I rigged up a bit of support to stop the neck flexing while carving.
The wenge was no match for the shinto!
