Not happy at all with this "new" forum layout !!!!!!!!!

Ok,,, I been playing with this new layout of TB and I am lost,,, I'm so lost I was not even sure were to post this complaint (please move to the correct category)

The search function for the forum category's ,,,,, where is it ????,,, is it the general search tab at the top of the page ???

I ran some searches from the top of the page but still not sure if I'm getting search results from the entire forum or the sub category (example: if I'm in the Amps section how do I search the Amps section only ?)

When search results come up where is the thread counts that show how many times the thread you searched has been been viewed ????

The original TB forum was so easy to navigate and view all the information on threads and everything else,,, this sure ain't the case now !!!

If it ain't broke don't fix it,,,,, nothing in the original layout was broken, it was clean, simple, and very easy to navigate,,,,,,,, now it is not !!!

Very bummed to see TB change a great forum layout that had a great UI into this new over complicated UI !!!

Please place this in the correct sub forum ,,, where ever that is :(

Damn, I HATE the new talk bass !!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to find a bass in the classified like a Cirrus, or a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass for example. The old way was so easy and it would show all the threads in order.
Now, I have no idea how to do simple tasks like look for a Geddy Lee jazz in the classified without all these other threads popping up.
This is frustrating and I HATE it. Forget what I said earlier about getting used to it.
I'm no dummy, but this just SUCKS !!!

I accept that things have to change, though it's a real shame regarding TB cause the old layout was sooo... comfortable to use.

What's really bugging me is the wide column of white space on the right hand side, anyone know how to get rid of it.

Ok just found the Retro button and what a huge improvement it is over the default setting. Maybe there's hope yet..we'll see.

Allrightee!!.....checkout the little arrow in the lower right hand corner it zips u back to the menu, very neat.

It really is easy. Go to the "For sale: Bass Guitars" forum. From within that forum, click on the search button and type in the name of the bass you're looking for:

Note that you do this from within the forum you want to search. So, for example, if you are looking for a bass, go to the "For Sale: Electric Basses" forum. If you're looking for an amp, go to the "For Sale: Amps, Preamps, and Cabinets" forum. Etc. If you want to search multiple forums, you can do that by clicking "More ..." and using the advanced search or by unchecking the "Search this forum only" button.

Note the other selected options:
  • "Search titles only" will search only the titles of the thread. If you don't check this, the search will include the text of posts as well as thread titles.
  • "Display results as threads" is self-explanatory. If you check it, your search results will be threads. If you leave it unchecked, your search results will be individual posts.
I understand that it can be difficult to adapt to change, but I don't see how anyone can view the search capabilities of the new software to be anything but a huge improvement to the old system. If you don't believe me, do a search for "SX." :bassist:

Scroll to the very, very bottom of this (or any page): Click on the words "TalkBass 2014" at the left edge of the horizontal blue stripe. This will give you the option to switch from "TalkBass 2014" to "TalkBass Retro."

Edit: Oops, I didn't realize this was question was posted a week ago and probably has been answered numerous times by now....

It seems that most web designers don't have a good grasp of ergonomics, if any at all. A web site such as this is a very simple thing. It should be brain-dead easy to use with minimal learning curve - and it COULD be. It should be as easy to use as an iPhone, which is FAR more complicated but doesn't even come with a user guide - it is all so obvious.

We go through the same thing with the products we develop for our clients. The engineers make things too dang complicated because it is so easy for them to understand - they do it day in and day out. But for the new user it is impossible. We then need to spend a lot of time and energy re-designing it.

Remember the old cliche about all VCR clocks blinking "12:00" because no one could figure out how to set them? That is what happens when you let engineers and programmers design the user interface.

BTW - it is the same with ALL auto electronics now. Good luck trying to use your MP3 player through your car audio system. Some cars take several clicks to get there! I've seen a Lexus with a MOUSE! Try to use that while you are driving! Ridiculous.

Anyway - bringing in a good industrial designer to help with the interface is not a bad idea - too bad most people don't do it.

Am I the only one who does find it that easy to use? I spent a few minutes the first morning after the new site was rolled out running through the various menus and options, and it all seemed fairly intuitive.

I love the new site. The search function is much better, I like the youtube integration, I enjoy the addition of the "like" function and the status updates. All in all, it makes the site more modern and relevant. I also wanted to give a big pat on the back to Paul and the rest of the TB team for making this transition go so freaking smooth. It's almost unprecedented in how quickly and smooth the change over happened. I have found myself spending more time here in the last week than at any point in the last year. Thank you for making this site modern. Oh, and as I read through the 13 pages before posting this, all I could think of was this image:

After figuring out the links and enbeds only work by copy/paste,and no longer by drag-n-drop, I've been totally delighted with the new site.

I've even switched back to the 2014 style from the Retro, because the very newness of it is such a breath of fresh air.

I do still miss the quick-links to a thread's last posts.Or the Home page's lack of links to a thread's last page.

Resized pics and collapsible/expandable qoutes save space....Lots of good stuff.

As I've spent more time with the new site, I find it much better than the old site. Took me a little while to get the hang of it but I like a lot of the new features...especially being brought to the first unread posts in a thread automatically. The "Alerts" serve the same function for me as the "My Talkbass" function did before and the search function is greatly enhanced.

Not sure what you're referencing... the old software embedded nothing, besides soundcloud, and you had to wrap tags around that manually. You can drag-and-drop attachments into the text editor, and you can embed youtube and tons of other media types by simply posting the link (it's auto-converted for you).

I was speaking of how before I'd link a webpage or Youtube page by drag-n-drop into the link insert pop-ups....Which this one doesn't allow.I tried.

The word 'embed' was used speaking of the new site. Not the old.
I've sucessfully used picture links and embeds since the change.

Perhaps it is related to your browser of choice or some other factor. I am not making this up. Far less information is appearing on my screen than there was under the older layout. Even when replies are simply a smiley, I can get maybe two plus a bit more without scrolling. This is less than I was getting previously. I assure you this is an actual thing that I and others are experiencing.

I am not being knee-jerk anti-change here. The old layout was most likely due for a makeover. The newer one just has a few things that need to be tweaked a bit IMHO. I am not trying to launch an attack on your new site. Trying to provide constructive feedback.
