Not happy at all with this "new" forum layout !!!!!!!!!

Ok,,, I been playing with this new layout of TB and I am lost,,, I'm so lost I was not even sure were to post this complaint (please move to the correct category)

The search function for the forum category's ,,,,, where is it ????,,, is it the general search tab at the top of the page ???

I ran some searches from the top of the page but still not sure if I'm getting search results from the entire forum or the sub category (example: if I'm in the Amps section how do I search the Amps section only ?)

When search results come up where is the thread counts that show how many times the thread you searched has been been viewed ????

The original TB forum was so easy to navigate and view all the information on threads and everything else,,, this sure ain't the case now !!!

If it ain't broke don't fix it,,,,, nothing in the original layout was broken, it was clean, simple, and very easy to navigate,,,,,,,, now it is not !!!

Very bummed to see TB change a great forum layout that had a great UI into this new over complicated UI !!!

Please place this in the correct sub forum ,,, where ever that is :(

Another viewpoint...

Very happy with the new TB! (Note: in a former life I was a business software designer/trainer/trouble shooter/support person for many years.)

There are more options and buttons to click but, to me, that means more powerful features or ease of use once you know what they do. I know..I know... it's the once you know part that sucks...but, hey, things have changed since one of my first computers had a 10mb (not gb) drive...and that was a big deal at the time. We have to roll with changes just like we've done with all the other changes. Anyone still have an XP computer? :atoz:

Obviously there is a learning curve that gets enmeshed with feature upgrades and bug fixes and really irks a lot of people so I suggest that spending more time going through all the features (study? read?...no, no...say it's not so...:help:) and make suggestions for specific changes. This may help lower your blood pressure.

When software goes live, no matter how much testing is done, there is always room for improvement and a lot of effort will be expended chasing down bugs. Facts of online life. The masses of website users are the final testing group for any company no matter what the size. IME, cultivating a high tolerance for uncertainty is very useful in today's world and helpful during the upgrade process.

Btw, prior to the upgrade I was spending little time on TB. Now, with such easy access to various categories of posts, followers, etc., for me, it's become fun again.:thumbsup:

It's Cumbersome... It's too Busy.... It's difficult to navigate.. The search field is extremely frustrating and time consuming ... I'm trying to like it and get huggy with it, but it's not happening so far ........ I prefer the VINTAGE TALK BASS.. Retro does help a little ......

Anyone still have an XP computer?

Responding on one right now. Sitting next to it is a clamshell dumb phone. Oh, no! What would Sheriff Taylor say?

But I have a couple of active basses, so that makes up for it.

Time to fire up the diesel. Grandma wants to take a hot bath and do some warsh.

I did finally give in and go back to the Retro look after trying to like the default, but other than that I can't say I have any real complaints.

I'm still a bit perplexed by the "Watched Threads" functionality, though. It seems that they can't be sorted the way 'subscribed threads' could on the old software, which is a bummer, but is there a way to limit searches to watched threads? The new search function is so much more powerful, but if I only want to search within the threads I'm watching, there doesn't seem to be a way to do that... or am I just missing something really obvious?

I gave it a week before I commented. I like it. I believe everything including the search is easier to use. It's just that things are accessed in a totally different manner. I read the FAQs and everything was fine. I like the alerts, likes, PMs, and the email notifications are 300% better. Before, most of the links were not live and copying and pasting mostly didn't work. Now, it is a big bold box in my email (good for old eyes) and one click and I'm there.

There is a lot to like about the new format. It just takes a little learning (re-learning)...

Oh, that's funny! "Grossly Outdated" What do you think of instruments like the Fender Telecaster, Precision Bass, Stratocaster, Jazzmaster and Jazz? I guess they are "grossly outdated". Same goes for the Gibson Les Paul, SG, Thunderbird. SMH!

How does a forum design have anything to do with vintage instruments? If we went with that mentality I would still be sitting home playing pong and waiting for the phone to dial up the internet and actually stay connected.

Just wanted to second this. This upgrade has greatly enhanced how I use the forum. The Alerts showing who's commented or quoted or liked a post of mine coupled with the ability to click right to that spot has allowed me to keep up with conversations much easier and faster than before. The changes in the classifieds are excellent. I am thoroughly enjoying the new format and am using the site far more now than I was previously.

None of the items you've listed need updates to keep up with the current state of the internet ... they don't need to run a currently supported version of Linux, they don't need to run a currently supported version of Forum software, they don't need new hardware (and associated software updates) when their harddrives wear out, they don't need additonal processing power to cope with ever increasing traffic and they don't need additional storage added to cope with an ever-increasing archive of historical data.

I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture ... you're comparing apples and wombats :) .

I just find this new format harder to read. If I toggle back and forth between this forum and The Gear Page, TGP is just easier to read. I'm using retro style but there are washed out fonts with this new format. Like the previous post 277 his signature ( I can't figure out how to do a quote) grrg63heavenonearth.tumblr.com it's really washed out. It really reminds me of Harmony Central.
