Not happy at all with this "new" forum layout !!!!!!!!!

Ok,,, I been playing with this new layout of TB and I am lost,,, I'm so lost I was not even sure were to post this complaint (please move to the correct category)

The search function for the forum category's ,,,,, where is it ????,,, is it the general search tab at the top of the page ???

I ran some searches from the top of the page but still not sure if I'm getting search results from the entire forum or the sub category (example: if I'm in the Amps section how do I search the Amps section only ?)

When search results come up where is the thread counts that show how many times the thread you searched has been been viewed ????

The original TB forum was so easy to navigate and view all the information on threads and everything else,,, this sure ain't the case now !!!

If it ain't broke don't fix it,,,,, nothing in the original layout was broken, it was clean, simple, and very easy to navigate,,,,,,,, now it is not !!!

Very bummed to see TB change a great forum layout that had a great UI into this new over complicated UI !!!

Please place this in the correct sub forum ,,, where ever that is :(

Maybe it's because I'm using computers all day at work or maybe it's because I regularily visit many forums all with different layouts and navigation, but it took me all of 10 minutes to find out what I needed in the new TB site. It's not that unique or unintuitive. Some have said this can't be rocket surgery but maybe it is to some, if you for instance have a disability of some kind (some people get genuinely worried by change).

However, personally I have to say that for the most part I do think it says more about those who post rage quitting type comments than it says about the web site. If you are actually not IT savvy enough or patient enough to find out how to find and use a couple of buttons and functions on a web site, do you really want the world to know? ;)

For those who currently use but don't enjoy the default style (I don't much) I suggest you try the alternate style, you change it by clicking the text "Talkbass 2014" in the lower left corner of the page.

You are patronizing here, and it's disgusting to say that people that complain may do so because of a disability.

I may be patronizing, because I think a lot of the rage quit type complaints are ridiculous and totally out of proportion. Take ten minutes and learn how to use the site, it's not hard, or just go away without being a drama queen.

As to the disability part, a person who has ADD actually told me he was sensitive to changes and was disturbed by having to re-learn how to navigate the site. Please read my post again and note that I did by no means say that I think this is the case for all that don't like the new web site.

paul (et al), thanks for implementing my suggestion of shrinking the length of the drop down Forum links and widening them, I appreciate it.

Now, how do we shrink the width of the text box to make the lines shorter and easier to read...? Seriously, this would make a load of difference and it will be immediately appreciated by all who complain about eye strain on the new version. Even reading the 'edit box' with the narrower paragraph is far easier than the current layout.

Example for comparison:

surprise, surprise... I don't like it either. Got my preferences sorted in a couple of minutes and went to the Retro look - much easier on the eyes. I used the "blues" view on the previous forum. White background causes eye strain. Retro is a lot better than default, but I'd prefer something like a neutral grey background color.

Re: narrow text columns... there are some sites I read regularly that use them, and I find them quite annoying. They require more page scrolling to read, and in widescreen format leave a bunch of empty space on either side. Wide text will automatically narrow on a smaller width display.

This is my first post in new editor, don't like the default font. Seems easy enough to change with Ctrl-A, just have to do it every time.

This one really annoys me - we don't need "like" or "follow", this ain't twitface. If you insist on a "like" button, we should also have a "dislike" button.

New annoyance discovery: alerts. Located alert preferences, disabled ALL.

You're really trying to turn TB into FB?

+1 to this. Would be a nice usability tweak.

There are aspects of the new site that I like, there are aspects that I dislike, but overall it just feels different. It's almost as if my brain has formed a mental image of the people on here based on the old forum layout and now everyone is a complete stranger. I know that's strange, but that's the best explanation I have. I find that I'm visiting way less than previously. That will likely change over time, but for now it feels "odd".

Being a double Taurus and hating change I'm actually enjoying this new layout a lot! Just messing around seeing how to find everything and it seems very well layed out and has a lot of nice new features I always thought TB should have - like "alerts" and a "like" button instead of ppl taking up space just to say +1, and the ability to upload files!!
Easy to use!

well done, TalkBass!!

Not trying to jump on the anti-change bandwagon here, but the new format means WAY less is visible without excessive scrolling. I am finding myself spending very little time here since the update. I tried to adjust but the newer layout is not user friendly especially compared to the older layout.

I've changed to retro style, but it still is a downgrade from former style.
