Some stand-out dudes who I've either seen barely mentioned or not at all on TB:
Royston Langdon (Spacehog) - Groovy, tasty, plus he's a damn good singer. Great example: 'In the meantime'
Andy Dickinson (Lo Fidelity All-Stars) - sick use of effects and tight funkiness made this band stand out back in the late 90's. Check out 'Battleflag' off of 'How to operate with a blown mind' to hear the p-funkiness of how well a bassline can drive a song.
Mick Grondahl (Jeff Buckley) - Tasteful, melodic, great tone, doesn't under- or over- play. Great distorto-bass tone on 'Eternal Life' off of 'Grace'
Jon Evans (Tori Amos) - Very talented multi-instrumentalist - he played 4 and 5 strings, EUB, and both electric and acoustic guitar on her last tour while working samplers, keyboards and Taurus bass pedals. I bought tix for my wife for our anniversary, and he pretty much stole the show from Tori for me - but not because he was a 'flashy player.' It was just Tori Amos, him, and drummer Matt Chamberlain and I was just damn impressed with his ability to help make her songs sound positively huge live.
