Nothing is douchey

Actually one thing I think IS douchey is all these threads calling what other people do douchey.

Live and let live; quit judging everybody else; quit worrying about what the other guy (or gal) is doing; you'll be happier and as will be the people around you.

Man, I was going to post pretty much everything you said here.
I was going to say that the only real douche move is judging other people by some arbitrary manner as to what is douchey or not.

I don't really consider anything douchey. Except repeatedly acting like a douchebag.

Its different to judge someone on the content of their character, so if a person acts like a d-bag all the time, like its a personality trait, it may be acceptable to refer to such a person as one.

You can be open minded, live and let live, do your own thing, just be yourself, not adhere to others' standards, dress for the show, etc, and that's cool; but, once you cross that line in the sand on which the other side is adorned with attention whoreness, pretentiousness, and a blatant "look at MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" attitude you become proof that

The Douche Abides.

Who decides where that line stands, though?
Is not part of putting on a show keeping the audiences attention? Do we not want them to look at us?

I pretty much look like a douche all the time so if people think I'm douchey on stage they are right but they are being douchey for judging me like that. Similarly I think most folks look douchey when performing. What's missing here is that all people are basically douches and the ones that don't look douchey are just posers and are the biggest douches of all because they are all caught up in being someone other than who they really are.

Keep douchey my friends.

Ah, so a characteristic of doucheyness is douchebaggy actions. However, how does one define douchebaggery without a prior understanding of the qualities that make something douchey?

This thread is starting to sound like the feminine hygene version of an M.C. Escher print... :help:

I wish I had the cajones to wear cool/different stuff onstage than the typical t-shirt, jeans look. In reality - I'm so scared of looking 'douchey' that I look normal - too normal. I need to start looking at bringing my look out a bit :-)

Just make sure your tshirt has skeletons and motorcycles, or music equipment logos (avoid *DC, )( , and other "trendy" logos) on it and you'll be fine.

Hi,

I've been teased a little because I like to wear my shirts tucked in. I guess that just makes me an old fuddy-duddy. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I've been known to tuck my shirt in (not on stage), but I do occasionally wear sunglasses if we are playing certain blues songs. ;) I think I am going to look into talking with a fake accent to really complete the image. Not fond of the British accent. I think I will try an Australian one instead.

I'm not a fan of Marilyn Manson, but one of his early songs had the line "Someone had to go this far."

I've always tried my hardest to cut the words "we can't do that" out of my stage. In other words, there's always gonna be someone that doesn't like what you're doing.

They don't matter. Play and wear what makes you happy. The only douches are the ones that conform to what everyone calls "cool", and never take the time to explore their own individuality.

And yes, I have a fringed leather jacket.

When I worked at a theme park in high school, there was a local rock band with a regular gig in one of the park's plazas. At some point during their set (with no irony intended...), they'd introduce a BoDeans song by mentioning that the band was from their home state of Wisconsin...in a British accent.

I've seen a number of things brought up:

  • Shirtless
  • Sunglasses on stage
  • Talking in a fake British Accent
  • Wearing your bass really low
etc.

Any of these things could be considered "douchey" by the players on this board, but in and of themselves, they really aren't.

By that, I mean, they could work. I am not fashion conscious. Last I heard, wearing your hair like it's 1973 isn't considered that cool, and wearing fringe leather jackets isn't cool either, and I shouldn't wear a straw cowboy hat because Bret Michaels ruined that, and I shouldn't wear tank tops, or tight shirts, either.

But I am myself, and I will be myself, and no one will ever be able to tell me that isn't cool, because it is.

The fact that this generation resorts to one word about vaginal washing devices to equate to stupid, moronic, weird, strange, bizarre etc. Etc is pretty much an indictment of the lack of creativity in present society.....LMFAO:eek::p

But it's useful to have one word that sums up all of those characteristics. The word in vogue for that used to be a-hole. Douche is ever so slightly nicer, at least.
