NOTHING PERSONAL, IT'S JUST BUSINESS

I hate when a drummer can't find the pocket. It's hard to explain to the casual listenter, "it's not me, it's the drummer!"

Oh man, a noob drummer in one of the groups I play with is horrible... no pocket, no sense of technical skill, struggles when we play our ONE song in 3/4, but its like, it isn't my group and the 'leader' just tells me to
"bare with her" til we find a new guy after our upcoming shows. I don't even want to play though because it will give ME a bad reputation even if I play well (which I do ;) )

Was in a band called Shredded_Evidence. We had a rythm guitarist who sang for us. He was also my neighbor across the street. He brought this other guy in to do back up vocals....screams etc. Chris...the other guy for backups didn't play any instruments so I decided to ask James (the rythm guy/singer) if Chris could do the main vocals and him to the back ups since he played guitar. WOW talk about someone crying in their cornflakes. He got all kinds of but hurt about it, and as I said I only asked him what he thought. He quit the band right then, but it didn't hurt our feelings at all. He thought we were going to be exactly like Metallica ( pull the trigger now please). He could be standing 3 ft away from me, and he would still talk into the mike like I was a mile away....total control freak. Anywho, after he quit he told everyone that we kicked him out, and all this hootnanny. He then came back two weeks later, and asked if he could be our manager.....what a dummy, so we told him that he could have half of what we made....which was nothing 'cause we weren't gigging at the time. He told us that he didn't want to cry in his corn flakes, and left.....wow what a baby!

I will say that the guy who took over screaming for us just got kicked out of the Air Force for smoking pot, but he owed me 50 bucks for a small cd we made ( two covers) so I got to keep his $200 fender pa system....I made out like a bandit..... Imagine someone death metal screaming Paranoid by Sabbath......utter travesty! Gotta get a new band when I get back..

I hate drummers who can't handle space. They can't play with it, they are afraid of it, so they just hit something to fill in gaps. It's takes away from the groove, and just is not fun to play with. I've been fortunate enough to play with a couple of guys who just play, give space when needed, and can play with it. I really like playing with this one guy who just plays heavy. Everything, even a simple blues shuffle is thick and meaty, all without filling in every last breathe with a roll or a few extra snare waps. The guy I commented about before though liked space a little too much and stopped playing the kick for 2 and a half songs.

manic, our ex drummers meds were causing him to be incapable of performing. We were more than fair for 6 months, but things just kept getting worse.

It got to the point where audience members would comment on how the drummer was falling asleep and not with it.

It had to be done.

LOL !! :D

i've had drummers burn out after a set or two , but never had one stop playing the kick drum ...

*raises hand*

I've done that, but then again I have a physical reason for it. My right leg will sometimes cramp up really badly toward the end of a set to the point where I sometimes can't move it any more and get any volume out of the bass. I either have to simplify the bass part even more or stop it all together. Though the latter hasn't happened much, but thankfully my bandmates are cool with it. I usually suck it up and trudge through it. But, being unable to do something is different than just getting tired and giving up all together instead of going through it.
