We all hype up COG Effects all the time!
I will say this, my Grand Tarkin has amazing build quality and nails the Civil War tone and all kinds of other Green Russian Muff tones perfectly. ALSO, it is amazingly flexible, mids, blend (even though it does not need the blend at all).

All I've seen appeared perfectly justified and based in experience with whichever effect it was people where talking about rather than hear say.
I have wanted some Cog for some time but am quite pedantic at times and may not get something if it isn't exactly what I want...very little while room there.
This octave may well be the thing I'll get.

Tom's never made a bad pedal. I've tried them all, owned a few, and have a couple of customs too. His build quality is stunning... Like nothing else I've seen. And they all sound great. I personally don't think his prices are expensive, actually I'm glad he's put them up as he was waaaaaaay too cheap a year or so ago.
I don't think his prices are expensive whatsoever.
Quite cheap for what he does actually.
The one exception to this rule is the t16.
Not when looking at the built quality but when looking at other octaves.
He seems to be a real good guy too!

My GAS is really filling up... A good sounding analog octave in such a small enclosure. It's exactly what I was looking for. I wish there were other videos with just the effect sound.
It's probably amazing, and I would trust COG stuff by word of mouth alone.
I've putted this one one my GAS list and I'm also considering the Gran Tarkin fuzz.
I don't think it's that expensive. But that's just me. $200 for a quality analog octave in a 1590a?
As far as I know it's an original design (well as original as one can get these days on an analog octave).
Filter all the way up, passive jazz bass, open E, no warble. Not even a little bit.
You see man - this the beauty of "value". It's so personal.
I have never heard an analog octave that I like more. The T-16/65 has everything I love about the OC-2 and Mutron octave, with better, cleaner tracking and the use of the filter which gives great tonal flexibility.
It is pretty well established in the 1590a pedal thread that there is not a single 1590a analog octave out there that people even consider useable. So for one that I would choose over even larger pedals? No brainer for this user.
Without de-railing this thread from the T-16, I want to just chip in also, to say that COG pedals are sublime. There may not be much HYPE, compared to pedals from other manufacturers, as we English tend to be quite refrained normally and whilst a lot of us own Tom's pedals, there isn't much of a pedal manufacturer 'club' mentality over on Basschat. Build quality on COG pedals is superlative, they sound as good as anything out there, plus Tom is very good with his graphics... I love my Archer-drive
Overall it does look very good and as said before seems to be exactly what i have been looking for.
To find something stock that fits the bill to the extent this one seems to, may well be worth a little extra.

I can't tell you it sounds better because as you say that's so personal. To me, and to my setup, it tracks better than any other analog octave I have.
And the filter is the real key and special feature about the pedal.

Also - if you don't mind - what are you comparing it to that makes this seem so expensive? And no the kit doesn't count.

'SO expensive' makes it sound like more than what I said, I recon.
What do I compare it to?
Just now I looked at the m288, OC-3,octron and the new mutron.
Granted...all are bigger, but all have more features as well.
To me however the fewer features of the 16 is a plus.
Tom at COG is a big Star Wars fan (duh!), but he had never heard of Archer when I asked him to do this... I think he now ranks Sterling as the second coolest man ever, behind Han Solo (of course)
I don't get it. The new Mutron is over 50% more expensive than the T-16. The octron is the same price.
I don't think its fair to compare the OC-3 and the MXR. This is handmade, those are made in Asia by minions. Plus the OC-3 sounds like ass (to this user - and I still own one).
And this has been squeezed into a 1590a.
I think you also have to account for R&D time in a pedal price... and be thankful Tom doesn't charge what Mr. Z-Vex does for his pedals (Mammoth, I'm looking at you!!)
Like I said before;
The mutron can do a lot more and the others too have more features.
But I also said the fact that it is built by a small company in the UK is a plus for me and combined with it's size quite possibly worth the slight up in price (looking at function as the main important factor here).
