NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

I suppose it could. I currently use a Rolls for my IEM's but I guess your description would work as well. Need a special cable with the 1/8" mini for the Mon Send but it seems like it would make sense. Not sure how strong the headphone amp on the OCSD is but you don't need a lot with IEM's. That would really bring my pedal board down. TU-2 and OCSD.

That's exactly the purpose of the design, and it does it well. Get a clip tuner and you don't even need a pedal board or power supply.

Dare I say, you could even take the pedal to your session in its box!

Anybody use the headphone amp as an IEM amp on gigs?
Please be cognizant of a possible lack of limiting going that route. It is rather unlikely the FOH desk has limiting on the monitor feed. You really don't know what may come through that channel.

One mistake on your iPhone or a good pop or crack and your ears may be in trouble.

Well, I finally broke down and ponied up the money to pre-order an Omnicabsim Deluxe. I can't take it anymore. There's no point in continuing the disappointing process of trying other, less-expensive options in search of a tone I believe only this pedal can provide. After everything I've seen/heard/read online about this beautiful little box, I fully expect it to be the solution to my years-long search for a good dirt sound direct to the board without an amp. Fingers crossed.

In the immortal words of Tom Petty, "The waiting is the hardest part."

For those of you who have ordered through DSM directly, how long does it typically take to arrive through customs once he ships? I've never ordered something internationally before.

It took a while for me. 3 weeks? Maybe more?

On the other hand I ordered something from Belgium and it took a week
Dang. That’s a long time. I hope it doesn’t take that long. Patience is not a virtue I possess. But I’m sure it’s worth the wait. Thanks.

I’m hoping that you aren’t expecting to get your dirt from the OCSD and that you have a dirt source that you’ll be using in front of it.
Correct. I have 2-3 dirt pedals that I have had a hard time taming the sound of when running direct. I currently use a Tech 21 Vt Bass DI, which helps to an extent, but I'm looking forward to the enhanced flexibility and resonance setting of the OCSD. Plus the headphone amp, which will be a big bonus for practicing.

Ah, cool. The way you wrote it, I was worried that you were going to be disappointed.
I had a VTBassDI into my OCSD and I really liked it. Then I got a DG VMT, and like an idiot, sold my VTDI. Should’ve kept it.

Though I am hesitant because I feel like the problem may not lie in the VTDI, but in some other aspect of how I'm attempting to monitor my sound (running everything into an M-Audio USB Interface and using it as a stand-alone preamp to monitor through decent headphones). I'm also hoping the OCSD will help me filter out what the problem is by taking the M-Audio out of the equation. If things still don't sound right to me through the headphone amp of the OCSD, I'm going to assume my problem lies elsewhere in the chain. I keep seeing awesome examples of direct drive tones online, and can't figure out why I'm not having a similar experience. My drives often sound like bee farts, or like I'm just clipping a circuit. Nothing amp-like at all. If I keep the respective gain settings below 9:00, it's usually okay. But anything above that and it's fart city. I've only seen one video online of someone using a blend, I think the XBlender, for his drive tones where I said, "Hey! that sounds like the crappy drive tones I've been getting!" It still sounded kind of crappy, but the blend helped. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Either way, the OCSD is an awesome tool and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Are you running direct? How are you monitoring/listening to it?
I run my OCSD in my signal chain, going into the front of my preamp that provides my DI and line level signal to my power amp. The OCSD is a vital part of my chain, as a user of distortion pedals. I honestly don't know how I was OK with my full range distorted sound before I got my OCSD.

Dirt pedals direct always need some EQing to tame the Bees and bump the lows / trim them. Your amp and cab naturally do this to the pedal, so the OCSDlx is designed to mimic that natural EQ - just be sure to use it last in the chain.

And yeah, it sounds awesome.

That's part of the problem. I haven't used an actual amp in years, and finding a direct drive tone that I'm happy with has proven most challenging. But based on everything I've seen and continue to see, this will be my last stop.

I wonder. Has anyone compared the sound coming out of the headphone amp to what comes out of the DI? Like, if I dial in a tone I like using the headphone amp, can I assume it will sound similar or close through the DI? (Realizing the bass will sound different in headphones than it will coming through a PA, but the overall character should be the same, I'd hope.) I'd hate to spend a significant amount of time dialing in a tone and then show up in church or at a gig and have it sound completely different.

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

I'm using the mono version and it's nearly identical between the headphone port and the DI. If there are differences it's because of what interfaces with the XLR \ 1/4".
