NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

Well.. I'm still working on it, but it is in fact a mini omnicabsim :) ..
It has the high response and resonance controls, and a switch for 3 cab sizes (combo, stack and fridge)

The bottom controls are gain and level. So it acts more like an amp. With the gain control you go from linear cleans to compressed, and up to a nice tubey soft OD.
1/4 out can be set as cabsim or through.
I think that just for the DI in a small footprint, it is a great value..
My Pedaltrain Nano is very pleased. My wallet is not.

About the drive interaction..i designed it to behave like cranking an amp. It is soft clipping, made softer with some tricks.. below noon it is fully transparent and clean, at noon it starts to fatten up and limit, you feel it on your fingers, mostly. Above 2 o clock some hair starts to appear and at max it is a nice warm Overdrive. This depends a lot on the input level, though..playing with the input level and the gain gives different feels..
I'm still adjusting that part, so the clipping only happens there, and not on the filters, that sounds awful, unless you like broken speakers harsh tone.. I don't...

I had some time with my OCSDlx and it really sounds great! Very professional looking box and the orange bag is a sweet touch, makes it feel classy, special.

I have a funky switch on mine but El Diablo has another they will exchange for me.

I’ve only had it a few days but I’m bummed to track without it

Ok, I’m getting another in the mail. But while I’m waiting, one question in case I’m loony. Does anyone power with a Fuel Tank Jr, T Rex? It should be ok, no?
Thanks!

Just pulled the trigger. My band is ampless and I expect it will give me the FOH sound I've been chasing. It's will go last in the chain: Multicomp - Grizzly OD - FDeck - DSM OCS - to FOH. Might even drop the FDeck. Very excited.
Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life. That's going to be a great setup. Just set the "high" level pretty low and crank the speaker size to 3:00 and you're golden.

Thanks Rick. Was pondering a preamp in front of the DSM but I don't think it will be necessary.
Certainly not "needed," but you might want one. Personal preference. I know some folks on here don't use a preamp with the OCSD. I decided to throw my VT Bass DI back on the board (which the OCSD replaced) just so I had a dedicated EQ and volume control ahead of it for my passive basses (which is almost all). But you can get plenty of tone shaping with just the OCSD. I wouldn't have bought a separate preamp just for that purpose. I already had the VT DI so I used it. But it's certainly not necessary. The difference when the VT is engaged or disengaged is subtle to negligible. Just a slight bass boost. But I also needed a volume control to tame the inherent volume boost from the TC Spectracomp that I have at the front of my chain, which the VT does, before the boosted signal from my compressor hits my drive pedals and makes them fart out. But that's a conversation for another thread.

It sounds great without anything in front of it. It also makes anything in front of it sound better. I’ve used-a Joyo American, British and California as an “amp” with the OCSD and liked all 3. I’m currently experimenting with an XTOMP mini...it also sounds great.

Also thinking of swapping the Multicomp for a Cali 76. They sound amazing in the demos I've seen.
Everything I have seen and heard from the Cali units makes me think they ooze excellence. I desperately want one. My mind is telling me yes, but my bank account is laughing at me in a sinister voice as it screams, “Never! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa!” I am glad that I went into social work, except for those times when I want to buy shiny expensive things.

Think I'm going to try without. I have a VT Bass and a Para Driver so certainly not hurting for a preamp if needed. :D
Thanks again for the feedback, can't wait to get it. I'll post a pic of the pedal board once it's added.

I was in a pinch several Sunday's back.. threw together a Nano with a Korg Pitchblack, Cali76 CB, and OCSD... Mercy!!! Perfectly yummy:thumbsup:

My latest pedalboard setup. The OCSD was amazing at shaping my off-stage sound at this covered outdoor venue. I also used the dsm nosidemaker Drive Maker this afternoon. The toneshaping abilities are incredible. I spent a fair amount of time getting basic settings at home, and fine-tuned them before the show. I may have a VMT and B3K in the classifieds sometime in the future. A couple of more shows will determine it, but, from today, its looking likely.
