What's the phantom power blocker? Have a link, of just brand/ model?
Here is the model I went with: Invalid Link Removed

This one blocks phantom power in both directions but you have to plug it into your XLR cable for 5 seconds for the resistors to charge up before plugging into the OCSD. Otherwise you will not block the phantom power until the resistors charge up.

I tested this out with my own mixer at home to verify there was no sound differences using the blocker with or without phantom power (and there was not). I did find that if the blocker was installed and plugged into my OCSD before phantom power was turned on and then I turned on phantom power, there was a secod or so of the volume going up with the pedal engaged.

I wonder if other phantom power blockers would have the same issue.

Here is another one:

I’ve read this entire thread and the GAS is gurgling.

I mainly would be recording with the OCS.

I saw earlier a member was using this before a Noble DI.

I have and love a Broughton P-15. It has a fancy transformer DI.

Would I put the OCS before the P-15?

If I put the OCS after the P-15, I’d lose the sweetness of the transformer DI out, no?

Thanks!

Nope, you won't loose that, only make it better :)

How so? What order do you suggest?

P15 •> OCSDlx.

The intent of the OCSDlx is to take a line level \ instrument signal and EQ it much like a cabinet \ speaker would. If you are going direct into a board, you won't need much or any added EQ changes with the OCSDlx.

The transformer adds its magic regardless of what you connect it to, just like a Tube, and the OCSD highlights it's qualities in a really positive way. It has an important ability of not loosing that magic \ dynamics \ musical tone while EQing it to sound into a really excellent mixable EQ point. I record direct using it, and since the OCSD, we do not apply any effects to the bass in the DAW.

@Alien8, thank you.

I guess what I didn’t explain is this. Would I go out of the P-15 xlr into the OCS?

Or, would I go out the affected 1/4” from the P-15 to OCS?

And if it’s the 1/4” I use, will the nice output transformer of the P-15 still be in use, or is it bypassed going out the 1/4”?

I’ll have to look up my version of the P-15. I think it’s the latest version.

I think I’m overthinking this. I’m pretty sure the affected 1/4” on the P-15 would use the same output transformer as the xlr.

Guys, dumb question that has been broached lately but I wanted to get a definitive answer. I use the DI on the OCS a lot at gigs. If the sound tech accidentally throws phantom power at it, does it fry it?
Per DSM...
It [DI] has some temporal protection, but sustained phantom may damage it.

That is why I went with an in-line phantom power blocker so I did not have to worry about what is sent from the sound board.

So, if the phantom power is accidentally switched on at some point... the 'temporary protection' would protect the pedal, and the in-line blocker would take care of it (after it's charged) if the phantom power stays on?

Not bothered about any problems with the sound while that is happening, my concern here is purely ensuring the OCS survives. I like it a lot and I don't want it to die.

That is correct.

I haven't used the OCS much since I started using sealed cabs exclusively, but I set it up last night at an outdoor gig on a hollow elevated stage. Settings below were not final... pretty sure I went for a larger cab size... regardless, the result was amazing: got a nice phat tone, perfect for classic rock and Motown/Stax R&B. :bassist:

I only used the dirt pedal for the bass break on "Dance to the Music". The rest of the time I got clean phat punchy P-bass tone from OCS and Smoothie.
