NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

Very nice. And cool bass! What is that?

This is a custom Joiner 'Fifty-Six' that I commissioned last winter, as an updated vision of a classic '56 P-Bass. The pickups are Nordstrand BigRigs, the electronics are a 3 knob Sadowsky pre, the hardware is Hipshot and the faux carbon fibe pickguard was also done for it by my friend Jeff Joiner, who also made other basses in my stable.

I’m really loving the BigRigs. Recommended

Check this video by Patrick Hunter..he just published it:

His videos are fantastic. His video of the OCSD was a big factor in my decision to get one. That and all of the praise it gets around here. The drive maker might be next on the list.

I use an Fdeck after my OCS and it doesnt feel or sound like overkill to me. I can beef up the cab size and resonance without things getting out of control.. Its a great combo
That's an intriguing concept. Because there are times where I want to beef up the resonance more but I can't because it gets too "boomy," and "woofy", if you know what I mean. Of course, I could just dial both or either back, but I'm always looking for an excuse to buy more pedals, so . . .
That way I can justify it to the wife. "But honey, I HAD to buy another pedal! The OCSD was getting too woofy!" It will sound good from the couch . . . which is where I'll be sleeping.

Make sure you reserve a little of that pedal money for a cheap pillow and blanket. lol

This concept of bass boost + HPF is nothing new. Its part of what people love so much about the Noble and the Arkham Pre's (and possibly the Mesa heads with the adjustable HPF): You can cut the lows, and add them back in which adds a different color and level of pleasant distortion. I love the Fdeck for this reason, because (with or without the OCS) I can crank the bass on my onboard pre, which is a really desirable bass boost, and compensate by tightening up the HPF a little so that the net effect is fat and juicy but not at all boomy. Its real hard to go back now to my sound without it. And I'm not even using super deep cabs these days. Really wish I had the OCS and Fdeck back when I was using Acme and Accugroove cabs which both have such stunning low end extension. Which can get a little problematic at loud stage volumes.
