Figure I'll jump in here. We've had a couple come back with reported noise issues. One was broken, but the rest were operating just fine. The thing to remember about this pedal is that it is an amplifier, meaning that it's going to take whatever is put into it and boost that signal.
My suspicion is that the hiss that's being reported is being generated from another piece of gear and the Ictineo is making the problem apparent. Without the Ictineo, you wouldn't know there's a problem since you're not boosting.
This is all speculation though - I just haven't found issues with the majority of units I've seen. As always, we're happy to take a look at any pedal and will always fix it if there's issues.

I agree that this is quite often the case, and I have had pedal boards where this has been an issue.
However, the one I tried with intent to buy was the only Pedal in the chain, set to unity gain, with a fairly neutral tone once we heard the hiss as we were trying to find a quiet setting. We tried multiple power supplies, and leads, and made sure the highs weren't boosted on the amp.
I'm not slagging the overall tone of the pedal, I loved how it sounded on the reviews I listened to, hence wanting one. Sadly, no matter how hard we tried, we couldn't make it quiet without making the overall tone very dull.
I know the pedal in question, and for the life of me have not been able to get any hiss out of it. It's bizarre to me. I'm not questioning it was noisy, but it is also operating normally at my place. I'm a bit stumped to be honest.

I use an MXR pre on my board now with just a couple other pedals. The MXR is always on. It is dead silent. When I got the Ictineo, I connected it as a standalone pedal, same bass, same cables, same power, same head & cab because I was specifically concerned about the hiss that some folks reported. I am not suggesting that there is a problem with the pedal and maybe this is considered normal but it will not suit my needs for the studio. Maybe I can send mine to someone here who has a quiet one to compare?

Hi All, owner of said pedal here. My guess is that the amp used was a Markbass combo with a tweeter that might have exaggerated any hf stuff. Might have been an idea to try another amp/cab if I had one handy. I also don't remember hiss the few times I used it, but it was present when I showed it to @Rocksolid . Too many variables involved prolly.

I've had my Ictineo since Feb '17 (first batch).....it's been dead quiet all this time then I switched to an active bass this weekend and all over sudden I had a hum/hiss come through.....it didn't do it with the passive bass I'd been using the last 6 months so could that have anything to do with it? I usually had it last on my board so decided to put it in front and see what happens at the next jam....another thing to think of though.....I played it with my active bass at home and there was no noise.......is it a problem with the jam room's electrical grounding...? This active bass has never had a hiss/hum issue but it is 20 years old so maybe the preamp (Aguilar OBP-1) is deficient....but it's been quiet in all the bars I've played in and in my home.
I've got one from the first batch also, it's quiet also. I run it almost always on. I use passive basses.
Like a lot of pedals the "flavor of the month" has passed and folks are on to other things. There has been some discussion over noise with the Ictineo but I have not had issue with that in several very demanding recording sessions and my own particular use.
As a partner in SP and an owner of 5 basses, my Ictineo has been very quiet with almost of my basses, active and passive. I will admit it is a little noisy with the Roscoe Beck, which is passive, but dead quiet with my Fodera and Audere. For whatever reason, I moved my All things equal to after my Ictineo and put my 3 leaf LBB before it. The Ictineo did not approve!!! Switched it back and its dead quiet again....
lol....electronics drive me nuts.....well, I switched the Ictineo at the beginning now and it's quiet here in the house so we'll have to see what happens at the jam space......could be the electrical in that room, there's so much stuff plugged in....or the preamp in my active bass.....it's a head scratcher for sure
But it's still a keeper, that pedal adds magic tone and it's been quiet up until now and is probably just accentuating noise from my old active bass preamp, I'm not selling it. Can't hear the noise while playing and it's not a loud noise at rest either, I just prefer no noise at all....not a deal breaker

So tried it this weekend at the front of the board.....NO HISS....so obviously it was accentuating a noise coming from one of my pedals.....I think I know which one because it did give me a hum depending on where it was placed on my board last time I tried it on my board 6 months ago. MY ICTINEO IS PERFECT so nothing wrong with it.

I keep a Hum Eliminator handy at all times. The plug style one and the Lehle DC filter if needed. Keeps my rig from getting Un needed hiss from different rooms and strange outlets!!
I was considering selling mine for a time, but now that it's back on my board I like the character that it adds. I personally wouldn't describe it as a desert island pedal I can't live without or anything like that, but I dig it.
