Oasis....

Is it just me, or is this band grossly underrated? I've had a couple of their cds in the past, but never really hooked onto them. I got their new greatest hits dual cd and am in love with it. These guys had the potential to be HUGE. I mean... like... beatles huge! It might just be because i don't live in the uk, but everyone i know has only heard a couple of their songs. Just like, wonderwall and champagne supernova. interesting....

I'm not a fan of Oasis but cannot deny how huge they are here in the UK and have been for 10 years now.Robbie Williams is another massive performer here but ,like Oasis,hasn't managed to crack the nut in the USA.Traditionally,the USA is mostly a closed shop to UK and European acts.

they're absolutely huge in the UK, they fill stadiums even though it's generally acknowledged their best years are about a decade behind them...

I can only assume that they're not bigger in the USA because various members kept quitting during US tours and managed to annoy the wrong people

and they didnt seem prepared to do the U2 thing and slog round the USA for years and years until the snowball gathered enough momentum

remember also at the time they appeared, 1995, the UK was ready for something different... the USA was completely dominant in UK music... in 1994 there were no world class new UK rock bands... Nirvana were no more and we were being force-fed all these neo-grunge type bands, and when Oasis came along in the UK, there was a general feeling of "thank god, we can throw away the plaid shirts and stop pretending to be American" ...but in the USA I think the grunge rock thing dragged on and mutated into the punk pop Blink 182/Green Day thing, which continues to this day... incredibly, metal and hard rock became cool again and it left British bands like Oasis pretty much out of step with American tastes

If you ask them, they are THE greatest band ever! That's annoying to me, but I cannot deny the fact that I like 'em.

Not a fan but cant really understand why Oasis hasnt been big in th US. Not sure if alot of UK bands are big in the US... I can understand why Robbie Williams isnt. Its because hes crap! Never understood why hes even half famous, yeah he can jump around on stage and sing, but alot of people can. Hes certainly not a musician.Overated rubbish.(end of rant)

On a bass playing note, an 'inside source' has told me that Noel Gallagher (guitarist/songwriter) played bass on the records till Andy Bell joined.

i agree...i haven't heard anything after that cd, but they could have been a lot bigger if they could have kept their egos in check
(i am not a hardcore fan, but that is what seemed to be the cause of all their issues--big egos)

I think their first two albums are amazing - seriously good songs on them - I haven't really liked anything they've done since. The thing is their first bassist 'Guigsy' was absolutely rubbish - and he was happy to admit that (the new guys in the band can really play though) - however my one bit of gossip I can give you is that Guigsy was in a relationship with a friend of mine's sister and it's a fact that he got a very nice - several million pounds - pay off to leave the band. Nice work if you can get it - plus he played on two very cool albums!

When I was in high school, Oasis was my favorite band.

I remember seeing a Les Paul for the first time in the liner notes of What's the Story. At the time, I played acoustic guitar, and they influenced my guitar playing at the time. They led me to Pink Floyd later.

I think they topped out, though. I never bought the latest album. I did not like the previous album, and the one before that only had one or two songs I liked.

I still bust out the Oasis collection every now and then, but they got replaced by Radiohead when I discovered them.

I've found out that the only Oasis songs that I like are the ones where Noel sings instead of the ones that have Liam on vocals ( like little by little and the importance of being idle) . In what other songs does he do lead vocals ?

Beatles huge? Noooooooooooo friggin' way.

I like Oasis and have a couple of their CD's but noooo way do they belong in the same sentence with the Beatles. The Beatles changed the world--they had a ton of catchy song-writing talent that penetrated everywhere and across generations. Plus Oasis singer is a geep with a lousy attitude.

you must have never made it to Britain yet. You cant walk the street without hearing something about the Gallaghers.

I love oasis and i have since they started making music, great band. They have potential and they have used it, they have made it beyond their own expectations, musically and press wise.

I think Noel basically IS Oasis. I read in an interview where he said he wrote the songs and recorded them himself playing all the instruments and then he handed out CDs to the rest of the band to learn, and then they recorded the album from that.

Some of their songs are absolutely brilliant, others are sh*te. If you truly want to be the best and greatest band in the world, you have to make sure the majority of your songs and albums is great.

It makes life easier for people who know a bit about musical success if you modify you comments in relation to the facts.
Robbie Williams,whether you like it or not,is hugely successful and an acclaimed singer/songwriter/performer.What have you done that offers the same if not a better attraction? Overated rubbish it may be,but only to the people who don't like that type of music.Green eyes are everywhere in this music business
