Oasis....

Not a fan of Oasis. Their ryhtm section is pretty bland and running around in circle. I guess the rythm guitar don't leave much to the imagination anyway. And I don't like the vocal style, it just does my head in!

The comparaison with the Beattles is funny, they used to compare themselves with them, and Don't look Back In Anger is a piss take / homage (you never know with them). Must be a Liverpool vs Manchester thing.

But they are big in England. They are quiet abrasive as persons, and I'm not surprised they are not as big as they could have been in the US. Their typical 'don't give a ****' attitude isn't really marketing gold.

Oasis, you either love em or hate em. Love em for their attitude, hate em for their continual recycling of 1960's material. I find them utterly bland musically, but lots of people like them. As the great Jimmy Saville once said, "now then now then, rattle rattle, jewellery jewellery, there is room for all types of music in this great chart of ours. oh yes."

I saw Oasis' first ever gig in Sweden ('94 or '95 IIRC). A gig which has legendary status among music critics here, and is often refered to as one of the best gigs ever. The thing is that I can't see why, as it bored me to tears. Since then, I've never been able to stand Liam's always slightly-out-of-tune-singing-voice, the big egos, or the incredibly boring songs. If you ask me, Oasis is extremely overrated.

Ahh, What´s the story morning glory is brilliant. Their best album, and it´s almost(if not) up there in the Beatles leauge. (But let´s drop that discussion..)

Oh, and Robbie Williams, while I´m no fan, is indeed very good at what he´s doing. A brilliant entertainer, good singer and decent musician.

Talk Tonight is feckin awesome.

I had an album on Tape years ago called: Definitely Flipsides. I have lost it now and have never saw it anywhere since :( :bawl:

It had all the B-sides from Definitely Maybe. Noel sang most of them so whoever said they prefer Noel would love it.

Noel is actually really funny and quick witted. Liams arrogance kind of evens it out :hmm:

Is it just me, or is this band grossly underrated?

I opened this thread expecting to see people call them the most over-rated band around!! :eyebrow:

I think they are truly awful and the only decent bits of melody/chord sequence they have, are lifted from old Beatles tunes and other sources...:hmm:

Also - I have heard live recordings and they are truly dire - just one, long, muddy dirge...

They must be the worst band I actually bothered to listen to and the start of the downfall of Brit Rock..

Out of tune singing, leaden lumping rhythm section, dirge-like distorted guitars, unvarying dynamics ...

I can't think of one thing to reccomend them...:hmm:

'dirge-like distorted guitars'

DISTORTED guitars?

DISTORTED??

Good Lord.. whatever next, Daddi-o? ;)

Well there's a big difference between using distortion creatively, creating your own guitar sound etc. - and making the whole thing sound like a dirge or drone - just strumming leadenly at maximum volume with no thought for dynamics or variety!! :hmm:

Well, it's all about taste.
What sounds to you like a "dirge or drone" (whatever that is), is to me one of the finest sounds of the 20th century. Oh yeah, WTSMG=pure magic. And I'm not even that into rock anymore. But quality is quality, regardless of genre.
Oh, I contradicted myself there, didn't I?
What about "it's all subjective, but I'm always right"?
That's more like it:ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

Bruce, your dedication to finding negative things to say about every possible topic under discussion is strangely admirable...

Only when they deserve it!!

I have written whole threads that were overwhelmingly positive about various things - but those don't seem to get read by as many people....:hmm:

I think people generally like reading negatives on TB, as reviews in magazines generally avoid this approach because they might upset potential advertisers or people they would want to interview in future.

Only here do you get the real unbiased truth - uaffected by "agendas" ! :)
