Obscure 70s Rock Bands

These Texans came along in the midst of the Punk explosion sounding like Exile On Main Street(album produced by Andrew Loog Oldham, so there you go); talk about bad timing, The Black Crowes took this sort of thing to the bank ten years later...

There is a whole thread here about "forgotten" 70s bands. Many of them don't meet your criteria of not having any future famous members.

Trapeze was an early Glenn Hughes band I'd never heard of, before he joined Deep Purple for instance.

Then there's bands like Sir Lord Baltimore, which was pretty unknown until the modern stoner/doom scene glommed onto them and started mentioning them in interviews and documentaries.

Pentagram's another one of those; that band technically never broke up as the singer/bandleader has kept it going and touring to this day on and off.

Oops, third post and I overlooked that(right after posting SLB and Pentagram videos).
Anyway, keeping up with Stones related, this band was shepherded and produced by Bill Wyman, but didn't seem to get very far(digging that backline!)...

Recently touring with Jimmy Ripp in place of Richard Lloyd; a very iconic and influential band. They were the ones who found CBGB's and convinced owner Hilly Krystal to let them play there; everybody else followed them.

I just checked, and there's three out of the four who were there when I saw them. Apparently Richard Lloyd (guitar) had to leave due to illness, and was replaced in 2007. Not bad going for a bunch of old punks.

* stack waddy is a far fetched stretch when it comes to listening. Biker music at its simplest form. And ... a bit too DIY...for my taste. As obscure as their music. "Positively antisocial!" .

Still the question remains: how did you know of them? I know they appeared once on Comedy central's "Viva Variety" show and BET sent someone to interview them at Quincy Jones' suggestion because everyone thought they were black lol, but....are you from NC also?

They were on Sony, they had nationwide exposer for a bit.

It's more like there's some seriously bad blood between Lloyd and Verlaine. Jimmy Ripp is an LA guitar slinger that Verlaine has been working with for two decades; in fact I saw a Verlaine 'solo' show at the infamous Viper Room in Hollywood in the mid-90's, and Ripp was the wingman.

Find it funny that Canned Heat and Hawkwind should be listed as "obscure". What is considered obscure by today, doesn't mean that they were obscure in their heydays.

2. von LMO ?

Job was glam rock, and von LMO...who knows? I remember checking them out only due/thanks to their cover art on albums... but when listening...naahh...meh...Julian Cope seemed to be von LMOs only fan.

Usually dismissed as a Bowie wannabe, in many ways he outdid Bowie. Always dug the harpsichord on that one.

YES! I checked out this thread specifically to suggest White Witch, but wanted to make sure no one else already did.

True story: my wife's father (R.I.P.) would actually hang out with the White Witch guys in their early rehearsal days. Not a lot of people outside of the Tampa Bay area even know who they are, but that first album was really trippy. Their second-and-last album "A Spiritual Greeting" was a bit different in tone, but still pretty cool.

Head East was very popular in the midwest in the 70's and 80's.
