I was staying at a hotel this weekend and came across an open mike happening in the lobby one evening. Every single person that got up was wearing cargo shorts. I think I'm gonna go back to wearing overalls like I did in the 70s.

On the other hand, I don't wear it on stage. My wife made it and a vest to go with it, out of an old woolen blanket. As I get older, I sometimes get cold. This solved that problem, and I like the look… but I don't wear it in public much.

The Barmah Squashi Bison hat took the place of my trucker/baseball cap.
An Australian Bush hat, manufactured in Northern Minnesota by a Norwegian artisan name Juerg.
Keeps the sun and sweat out of my eyes, and if you look at my name... it covers that well.

Dude that makes them is beyond cool... Of course he might be Swiss....

As someone who almost never wears a hat indoors, I have to side with the anti-hat on stage crowd.

That said, outdoor gigs are a free-for-all with me.

It is ungentlemanly to wear a hat indoors, is what I was taught.

Some bass players are intent on advertising they are in their later years. You will notice that Paul Mac doesn't wear one, neither to most players who sill use a brush and comb every morning.

Just so funny, that all the music-forum-dorks have such strict dress codes and issues with hats and shorts.

Sorry (not sorry) but I wear baseball hats daily, both forwards and backwards… I just don't care if someone doesn't like it, sorry the fake dress code just doesn't matter to me … and hey at an outdoor festival on Labor Day (85°) I wore shorts and a hat (backwards) for a 4 gig and beforehand I told my band I was gonna wear shorts… so the guitarist and keyboardist also wore them too!!! I know this may be an unpopular opinion by the dress code police… but oh man, imagine that… all of us wearing shorts (the drummer always wears them) and bassist with a hat too… oof!

Oh and our singer wore a nice little sundress… so no one at all gave a crap that we were all wearing shorts! cuz they never looked at us!
