Anyone with the "never wear shorts" thing in their head has never had to play an outdoor gig in central Texas in July or August when it's 105f in the shade and 90% humidity.
Everybody wears shorts outdoors here. Everyone.

Personally though I don't care what anybody wears on stage, shorts, hats, boots, sandals, jandals, barefoot, a dress, a parka in the summer. As long as you are enjoying your gig and not majorly screwing up the show, You are awesome!

I've been Genetically Challenged my whole life as I have a big head. Most hats and caps you guys wear just sit up on top of my head, it's hard to find hats that fit me.

When I started riding motorcycles in my late 50's, I had one hell of a time finding full-face helmets to fit this melon on the end or my neck, they just don't make many, or just in plain colors. I went to a local Honda store, they had a 2XL HJC that actually fit me just fine in the right graphics. Great!

Take it up to the counter, the guy gets a big smile on his face, and says 'Does that really fit you?" I replied it did, and I'd had a hell of time finding anything that did. He says "I thought I'd NEVER get rid of that one, and I've got two of them. If you buy that one full price, I'll give you the other one free, buy/one, get/one. Whaddya think?"

Went home with two helmets !

I've been riding g since 68. Been hit once and damb near killed on the xway. Dumb ass claimed he didn't see me, ya right. Anyway, I have 6 helmets all that fit my coconut. Basses are like helmets. They have to fit to be a keeper.

Been there... 7 3/4, or between 2 and 3 XL... I'd say it's more room for brains but the wife says it's something completely different.

Lol! Outside, in direct sun (or even "open shade") I have to wear a hat - and usually a relatively wide-brimmed Tilley, otherwise the sun starts to get to me... I haven't worn shorts since 1984.

i've never worn any kind of hat in my life...until the early summer of this year: in late 2022 i started letting my beard grow because i want to be a santa this year 2023, someplace, somehow, at least once, and i decided i'd let my hair grow too (less maintenance all around). so, i started wearing a ball cap 24/7 to keep the hair out of my eyes.

I wear a hat at every gig I play, for the simple reason that I think heads with hats on them are more interesting to look at than hatless heads. There are exceptions, of course, but I count my head as one that's more interesting to look at with a hat on it.

I've been shaving my head for about 12-13 years, except for the pony tail on the back. I'd be more self conscious if I were to let my hair grow.

I've only worn hats for outside gigs that are weather or sun related affected. Usually a baseball cap or my wide brim hiking hat. Never thought about the fashion statement factor. But then again, mine are pretty MOR. Nothing flashy or dorky.

It is ungentlemanly to wear a hat indoors, is what I was taught.

People always remember that rule of etiquette, but forget the part of the rule that says you can wear your hat if the establishment doesn't provide a hat rack.
