I have a large head (7 5/8), so I don’t wear a lot of ball caps (need fitted). I’m the reason for the “most” bit in “one size fits most”. But I like hats. I’m also blessed with a thick head of hair. But I love my hats. I wear big brims outside in the rain — no need for an umbrella, and I have all of my peripheral vision, unlike with a hood. I’ve had associates who spend a lot of time outside without hats end up with melanomas. Some have died from them.

The right hat is both a reasonable tool and a fashion accessory. A hat outside is a tool; a hat inside is a statement. I’m not hiding anything under there. I’m just making my own statements. Rock on, bros.

One of my guitarists always wears a ball cap, jeans, white sneakers and a bowling shirt at every regardless of temperature or venue. The other guitarist and I wear shorts, short sleeve polo (or graphic t) shirt and docksides (NO hats). What we wear doesn't matter....as long as we play well and the people enjoy our performance!!

Oh yeah, that Lemmy guy thought he was a real bad-ass with his swastikas and suchlike; I'd like to have put him in front of Monsieur Nevot my 3rd grade gym teacher who fought the Nazis with the Free French in Africa. I'll guarantee you M. Nevot was giving Lemmy 20, maybe 30 years, and would STILL have shown him who was REALLY a bad-ass.

Sorry, no swastikas here.

I wore a hat at a gig once. That was 1970. I wear hats all the time when I am outside - shade is good for the eyes. Some hats look better than others. I have never worn shorts. Wear what you like, who cares? Anything that makes you feel better about yourself (even if no one feels the same about your sartorial splendor) is a good thing - confidence is powerful medicine.

At least Lemmy wasn't promoting or supporting in any way the ideology behind Nazi memorabilia (like that guy in the news). Lemmy had the brains to take it out of context, with humor. The WWII era Germany IS a legitimate area for art/design study, if you ban it you are like the people who say we shouldn't teach history because people's feelings will get hurt, boo hoo. Also the swastika is probably the most ancient symbol there is, stretching back into the Neolithic. In Tibetan Buddhism it represents crossed Dorgies, thunderbolts of liberation. In Hindu neighborhoods it's used as a good luck/protection charm and you'll find it on entry way steps and door frames.

Opinion Page: I'll wear a hat in the very cold or sandy desert or too sunny environment. Otherwise, president Kennedy gave us (American males) permission to Not Wear A Hat. (You HAD to wear a hat in the 40s and 50s.) Hats Keep you In Your Head more, so you are less likely to be original. These Character Hats are an affectation or the person knows it's a Performance. Musicians have permission when they are hiding on stage behind a character.
