I vote MXR since it tracks well and has a lot of tonal variety. My second vote is for the DOD meatbox reissue as it is just massive.

I am not huge into effects, but like to stick as close to the original recordings as possible. I use an octave effect for two songs, so two octave pedals doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me.I like having different octaves for different uses. I don't think I'd like having just one octave onboard.
I use an OC-2. I like the synthy/subby sound to it. I use 2 different settings:
1. 2 OCT and direct down all the way, 1 OCT up all the way.
2. Direct @ 3:00, 1 OCT @ 1:30, and 2 OCT @ 9:00.
The first one I use for the classic synth bass tone, and the second one I use to beef sections up.
Thanks! I like that second one because of you throw some dirt on it you can hear the second octave clashing/modulating with the first one. If you don't use dirt, the second octave adds a little more meat to the overall sound.Awesome settings!! Thanks for sharing
Just to add a bit more here, the Boss OC-2 and the MXR are both analogue octavers. Many others are digital and while they tend to track better than the analogue pedals, they don't have the same organic and warm tone. A lot of the tracking is inherent in how you play through them too. Punchy, tight, staccato playing helps any octave divider track a lot better. Which is why some bassists don't get on with octavers.

If I didn't wanna use one, I wouldn't have started the thread. Then don't use one....
