Odd conversation with the wife today...

While you're still here on God's green earth, make her a purple bass (or give her the purple one) and teach her how to play it
So, I have a growing collection of basses. I am currently working on a kit bass that will be #14. I am painting it metallic purple with a white pearl pickguard and gold hardware.
I have another bass, a Squier Sonic Bronco, in the web exclusive purple color.
Now, my wife has stated that my son, who is also a bassist, gets all of my bass stuff except for these two purple basses, which she intends to keep.
So here is the strange part...she looks at me today and says, "You need to teach me how to play. When you're gone, and I have these basses, I want to be able to play them and remember you."
Now, I gotta say, I love my wife with every fiber of my being. She is absolutely amazing and supports me in every aspect of my life, especially my music. For heaven's sake, she was the one that told me to go back to the pawn shop and drop the $3k for the Ric 4001! Never flinched. Never said, "let's talk about this" it was just, "GO GET IT!"
So, now, I guess I am going to teach my wife how to play bass.
Out of curiosity… why the need for 14 basses?
Early in the pandemic, my wife asked if I could teach her to play bass. After living with me for almost 30 years, she’d figured out that being a bass player is a foolproof social distancing technique. 
I have discretionary income. <shrug> Most have a different tone to them or set up with different strings to meet a certain need. I like my flexibility of being able to grab a bass for a certain sound and run with it. I have my Ric strung with flats, I have a counterfeit Ric strung with rounds. I have a Precision with flats. I have a P/J strung with rounds to get a roundwound sound Precision. I have two five strings, one is active, the other passive, both are Jazz basses. For me it is for the flexibility. I still have other basses I would like to add. My kids are grown and out of the house (mostly, still have one here, but this time next year he says he won't be here). When the oldest moved out, I got his room to do with what I want. It is my music room and has my gear in there along with my other hobbies.

I wanted a fretless bass, but I wasn't allowed to spend any more money on musical instruments. I volunteered for a medical study that paid cash to get the money under the radar. I didn't have to take anything, just a lot of monitoring. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

). It's allowed me to acquire some really nice gear and makes it a lot of fun being able to have just about any tone I want at an arms length.

Same. While the money I make from music is minimal, I still have the discretionary income I mentioned from my monthly pay that is enough to cover the remainder of what I refer to as my "crushing gear addiction". LOL
Well, #15 got ordered this morning. G&L CLF Research L2000. Should be here Thursday. Another wish list bass scratched off said list. <shrug>

My wife says she plans to spend the last few months of my life in the memory care center gaslighting me about all the famous people I toured and recorded with. Then, when I finally go, she's going to have me cremated and my ashes stuffed into a pillow case to be placed in the kick drum of her new boyfriend's drum kit right as he leaves on tour with a Norwegian death metal band.
"The best part", she says, "is that he drinks a lot when he plays and can't keep time."
I ask "So, you're going to outlive me?" To which she only replied "Duh."

Plus my wife wanted the AR! She is getting a little concerned of todays world.
Wrote this song for my wife and she said she wanted to play on it. She played glockenspeil in a marching band when she was a kid. Got her a glockenspeil off amazon, taught her the part and she plays outro. All is good.
My wife used to play violin and piano, so she's pick up bass if she wanted to.
But, I'd rather she picked up the violin again so we could actually play together (or tried her hand at the banjo I restored, but don't know how to play myself).

Sounds like your wife and my wife would get along famously. When I got my AR years ago, we went out shooting and after firing off three or four rounds, she turned and looked at me and said, "I want one!" So I got her one.
