2. 50 (as of May 30... could be the youngest one here, though I haven't checked...)

4. Started as a singer in teens & twenties... in & out of various bands over the years, adding guitar, keys (bit & backing parts) & bass over the years. More-or-less exclusively bass for several years now. Should have taken up the harmonica.

1964: Bought a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Jr.Special (dual hummers) and a 1959 Fender Twin Reverb (tan), both for $100. Sold them for $150 in 1965 when I statred playing bass.
1965: Bought a 1958 Fender P (red/white pickguard) and a Fender Bassman amp, both for $400. Sold them in 1975 for $500.
1979 - Bought a new MIA Fender J for around $500 and sold it for $500 in 2006
Just goes to show: there's no fool like an old fool.

I'd like to join! I'm 58 (or as I like to say it, I celebrated the 30th anniversary of my 28th birthday this year...), and have been playing bass since I was 16. I've played in a lot of trios, and trio + singer bands, currently in a 4 piece (2 guitars, one also plays keys, and drummer). I currently play a Tobias Toby Deluxe through a Line 6 LD300 for indoor gigs, and through a Carvin R1000 head into a Hartke 4x10 and a 1x15 loaded with a Carvin PS15-4. I have a rack-mount BBE Sonic Maximizer patched in through the effects loop on the Carvin. I also have a Jay Turser Beatle Bass and just acquired a Lightwave Saber SL4 which I'm integrating into my setup. We play Classic Rock, and all of the band members are in their mid 50's. The band's website is Link Removed, and there are links in my bio to other bands I've played in.
I got my first 6-string guitar at 12, then got interested in drums, and taught myself to play a set, then decided a bass was less expensive than a set of drums, and bought my first bass at 16. Started playing in my first band 6 months after buying the bass (a Kalamazoo 1 pickup with an SG style body, and a Fender style neck), playing through Fender Bassman piggyback amps, first a 50 watt 2x12, then a Solid State 3x12. My next amp was an Acoustic 360 and I also acquired a Gibson EB-3 bass, then later a '64 Fender Jazz. Since then, basses and amps have come and gone, but I've kept playing through all the years, sometimes, more, sometimes less...

I'm with you brother. I sold a 74' Telecaster bass for $300, a '74 Ric for $400, and an early 70's SVT rig for around $400 as well. And the list goes on.

4. Been playing guitar since age of 14, but played bass in earnest for past 25 years. First bassline learned: 8 days a week by the Beatles. Bassline determined to learn: What's Going On by Marvin Gaye. I've played in several blues-rock, original and classic rock bands. Quit playing entirely for past six years, just started back up by taking music theory at a local Kansas City music school.

cazksbass--cool Beck! I was looking at your photo, thinking 'those pickups look familiar... wait... 6 pole pieces?" Then realized on my bridge pickup (see my post above) the two pole pieces on the far bass end are blacked out! Never noticed that before. Took a closer look. They don't look corroded; they look like someone colored them with a Sharpie or something. None of the other pole pieces on either pickup show anything like that. Odd!
