Started on upright at 13, electric shortly thereafter.
Played in bands all through high school and into college.
Quit playing completely for 15 years and started up again about 7 years ago. Played in a band in '06; continue to do some fill-in work and play weekly at a popular area blues jam.
Would consider another band if it was the right situation.

I think I might qualify to join,...because I'm so old I can't remember if I joined this club or not!!!! Anyway,..56 years young, had a double bypass in January and was out gigging again in February. Have played since the 9th grade, starting out in revival circuits,..then off on the road to damnation with rock and roll bands. Played fulltime for over 25 years,..now I build airplanes and play just about every weekend. I do it for fun now though, if the band ain't groovin,..then I'll be movin,..on to another group!

I'm down to just 3 basses these days,...a Ritter classic 5, my old trusty Modulus Q5, and my latest love,.a Chris Stambaugh SC 6 fretless.

Bottom line to being an old geezer bassist is, I think,..we may not be as fast or flashy as we once were,..but we probably have a better time playing than we ever did. At least that's the case for me anyway. Now pass me the Geritol, don't be bogartin' it!

I started playing when I was 13 and played in bands right up until my mid-20's. Then I stopped until my early 30's and joined a band again. Then I stopped the "Band " thing again until about 5 yrs. ago when my best friend ( a guitarist) and my Wife double-teamed me to play in a band again.

So, here I am....

This is the early `80's. That is my old Travis Bean aluminum neck Bass, Ampeg SVT, the under it is a Sunn Coliseum 2 X 15" reflex bin. I had a single 18" reflex on the other side of the drummer.

And yes, we were a tad "loud".....

Thank God the hair stayed.... it just grayed.

Here's my `97 Fender with my G-K abusing the crowd. I love playing and will continue to play until I can't, which I hope never happens. After 35+ yrs. of self-taught playing I just recently started seeing an instructor to break bad habits and learn new techniques.

Played bass in high school (my old Sekova Vulcan hollowbody) and got into the electronics...became a EE; 41 years later as I start thinking about retirement, the bug bit me again and I started re-learning on a Dean EAB fretless kicker. Then sitting in Guitar Center one day, my wife insisted that I buy a Warwick Corvette $$ 5-er I was leering at. Use a GK porta-rig (700RBII + Neo 212) I now play in a employee band called X-Band (we build radars...inside joke) We do employee GTG's and community events (American Cancer, Anysoldier.com, Special Olympics) Great fun.

I will be 61 in a couple of weeks. That mean I'm over 60, can I be a part.

Started playing in bands in 1964. Been on the bass ever since.

I handled the first bass when i was 16 and after two years of playing guitar: it was an Hofner 500/1.

My first own bass was a Meazzi (see 2nd picture), a horrible thing to play but today is a fetish instrument. Sold it to buy a banjo (!!!).
Some experience, one with a jazz band and one in a recording studio to help a friend (both with borrowed Hofner 182), then i graduate and begun to work, therefore forgetting to have been once a bassplayer.

After 22 years of forgetting, on 2007 i recovered from the amnesia and bought a 2nd hand Squier; after 2 months of practice at home i found the players for a band, then i bought a Fender-P.
Now i also own a Hofner Ignition and play in a U2 cover band.
