Yeah, I had to do a double-take as well. The writing in the background told the story. It's weird how your phone flipped the image.![]()

If you love them and enjoy playing them, they're very special and that's all that matters.I mean, mine aren't anything to drool over. They are just B.C. Rich shaped things, I can't afford the fancy ones so my Warlock is a Prestige and the Mockingbird is the MK3. Nothing fancy at all.
Agreed! If you love them and enjoy playing them, they're very special and that's all that matters.
Probably not very exciting to you guys snatching up all of the USA models but I decided to make a rescue attempt on what I believe is likely to be a 1980 BC Rico Eagle. Hard to tell with the mess of a brushed on paint job but there are some good points here.
The bad.... Frets pulled, crappy job, some chips and gouges. The aforementioned brushed on alkyd urethane paint.
The good.... $200, Structurally impressive. everything seems to work, all original parts mostly unmolested except for the stash hole drilled into the control cavity cover. No crack, breaks or anything that can't be tidied up.
Questions. Were the early Rico's set necks, cause this one appears to be? The control cavity cover is either bakelite, a composite or aluminum. They are both lite and very rigid, not cheap plastic. The headstock veneer appears to be holly or rosewood. What can people tell me about these? I should probaly just text my friend as he has owned several of these.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to restoring it, no matter what it is.

I feel like this was likely originally a natural finish?

Stash hole in cavity cover. Somehow everything now makes sense....
I'll post some pictures of the heel. The neck heel looks just like the blue Rico on reverb right now. The joint is in a super odd place. I was originally hping to do it in a clear or natural finish, but I may just end up doing GRW or some other solid color. Were the pickups in the early Japanese Eagles Dimarzios?Looks to be an early NJ series, most were neck thru or bolt on. There were some set neck
I'd have to see the heel to be sure
HS cap on them was usually rosewood, fretboards are rosewood. Body's were usually a combo of maple and mahogany
For $200 it's a nice starting point to customize
The heel on the set necks was very blocky , not my favorite visually.I'll post some pictures of the heel. The neck heel looks just like the blue Rico on reverb right now.
