Just an update on my new Duck Dunn.
Had my first gig with the DD last night. First time its been through a rig.
All i can say is WOW. what a difference compared to my HW-One.
The DD had so much more life to it. Lots of punch without sounding too middy. The band even commented on how good it sounded (and we all know guitarists very rarely even know we are on stage;-).
For the first time i found i was using the tone knob as if i was playing my Jazz with its two volume knobs. All the way up and the sound is very bright an "rock" sounding, especially when i played with a pick on the old Jam and punk numbers. Backed off a bit it was warmer but still clear. all the way off was just perfect for the more mellower songs. Slap sounds were also great. lots of low end thud with a good snappy top end.
I dont normally use the tone know much. Although it works ok on my HW-One it seem to need turning quite a bit to make a difference that can be heard in the mix but the DD seemed to have loads of variation.
Still cant get over the amount of thump coming from my pick playing.
only downside to the gig was it was over half empty so we mucked around a bit. I found it so easy to play that i guess i over played a bit (slapped Build me up buttercup

I also found this the first bass i can more or less play without looking at my left hand a lot of the time.
i found the overall balance of the DD better than my other basses but its 1lb heavier than my HW-One so ill have to get used to it but it wont take long. It felt it was playing itself last night.
Not got a gig for two weeks now, its going to be a long gap but ti gives me time to send it back and get the replacement.
I took this pic on my phone so its not great.
Guess i haven't post my 55-01 yet. Its only plain black but it plays and sounds great as im sure you know.
Its got a NTMB in it and a switch on the front for selecting different Mid freq's.

You all already know this but Dan and company make the best basses oney can buy. My Smith's have been put to bed for a very long vacation. Hat off to all who make them possible.

I like the white shell because, as a design element, it creates a unified look with the blocks on the board. The tort is cool, but suddenly the bass looks less... 'clean.'
Dang. I won't even set a glass on my counter without a coaster.
(mental note to self.....never loan anything to gillento.....)

Okay then, add my name to the list! Just picked up a 55-01 this morning and while it's taking a little getting used to the 5th string and the wider neck, I'm loving it! The smooth, flat neck is fitting me quite well.
Pics to come....Too busy playing and getting ready for the Daytona 500 party. It's a natural finish w/maple fretboard I bought off a fellow TB'er.

Here's a picture of my upgraded JO5 with white pearl PG from Jeanie's and an Audere JZ3.

The Audere is just what the doctor ordered.
It took 15 minutes to install and is a perfect fit.
I bought the JO5 for the Lakland pickups.
After I heard them I had to have them, like a junkie needing a fix (thanks Dan).
Now with the JZ3 in there, I'll stack my $1150 Skyline Jazz Bass against any 5 string Jazz on the planet.
The Audere is virtually transparent. It seems to add only what's needed to take the bass to the next level.
Having a flexiblity of a 3 band eq, PU split, 3 Z-modes and clean boost, has awaken a sleeping giant.
It's like have the reigns of that monster from Cloverfield...
