Yep, his reputation will show up sometime in the first round of the playoff. Lord knows no other parts of his game show up then.
Truthfully we loved him here in Phx, but his disappearing act against Detroit two years in a row was tough to watch. And speaking of tough to watch, Mike Smith made his Coyotes debut, losing 6-3 to San Jose. Not entirely his fault, but geez...
Hey, Mike (and other Pens fans). Was going across some old podcasts in cleaning up my iTunes library and found one you might be interested in. Emrick's Angle dated 5/14/10. About 6 minutes long, talks about the closing of the Igloo, has some interesting trivia in it.

The NBA cancelled the first two weeks of their season. I sure hope the NHL jumps on this golden opportunity to attract more fans.

This is a golden opportunity to get more people excited about hockey.
I have never met anyone who has seen a game live who didn't fall in love with the sport.
Tomorrow night's opened in Philly will feature all new control booth and hi-def equipment at the Wachovia Center. Big thing in the Philly papers about it being great for the Flyers and Sixers games.

I find Don Cherry's comments on fight and head shot a little funny , no wonder he doesn't want those to end , he's making big dough with those "best of DVD"

He should watch some of the Vancouver Olympic tournament games and see that the best hockey in the world is a fast pace , no fight hockey.

Our home opener isn't till Thursday.
We picked up Mcgratten (sp?) from the Ducks and placed Stortini on the waivers. I don't really understand the move because Stortini actually has some D to his game instead of just fighting, but maybe the brass is looking for a more "hands on" guy when it comes to protecting the youngsters.

Another podcast from Emrick's Angle dated 5/21/10... this one features the Prince of Wales finals from 1987!!! Doc recalls the shenanigans that went on in the pregame leading up to the pregame brawl between Montreal and Philadelphia in the Montreal Forum and how Hextall was held prisoner by Keenan and a security guard during the broohaha.

Fun game from the Pens last night, and a fairly easy win. The team seems to go through these stretches in games where they are playing reactive and somewhat unmotivated hockey. But as long as it ends up in wins, I won't complain.
Anyone see the blown faceoff by the Pens? Vitale was screwing around on the ice, the ref called for him, he didn't get to the face off circle, so the ref dropped the puck anyway. It led to a Florida goal, but I still couldn't help but laugh at Vitale for being out of position.
Also, I forgot how much I like Tomas Fleischmann. He was always a thorn in my side when he played for the Caps, but I thought he was mostly benefiting from playing with Ovechkin. Nope, he is a good player. I'd like him on the Pens.

Yeah, we miss ol' Flash down here in Washington. He was a solid player, but he was a casualty of our quest to find tough defensemen (not sure that Scott Hannan was ever the answer). Even though he was with Colorado, it was sad to see him go down last year to a pulmonary embolism. Hopefully he's past all that and will have a good year in Florida.
Pretty entertaining game in Philly against the Canucks. Vancouver started out pretty ragged and Philly went up 2-0. Then it's 2-1. Then 3-1. Then 3-2. On and on it went like that. One team would score, then a couple minutes later the other team would score. The Flyers finally held on for the 5-4 victory. Giroux opened the scoring for the Flyers once again. If I'm not mistaken, he's scored their first goal in all three games they've played.
Tons of penalties, but not fight-related. A lot of cheap calls (IMO) on both teams that the refs could have let slide. I'll say one thing: That Vancouver power play is friggin' scary when they're on top of their game. Beautiful puck movement and some real snipers. Two good teams going toe-to-toe...

I wasn't happy with the call on Rinaldo nor the call on Pronger (who made sure to let the ref know what he thought of the call right after the game ended),....but yeah,...PK had to come up big in the 3rd. Lot's of funny bounces and both teams were able to capitalize on lucky breaks.
It was definitely a good test for Bryzgalov,...he faced a lot of rubber and came out on top. Rebound control was a little shaky but some saves he made look easy.
Giroux get's his 3rd goal in as many games and had a 3 point 1st period adding two Assists.
Voracek also scored to get 2 on this young season and Couturier got the helper for his first NHL point.
Glad to See JVR get his first goal on the season as well.

Did get annoyed seeing 5 Flyer penalties, a few of which were iffy calls, especially the JVR and Pronger ones. Overall by the box score, looks like the penalties were fairly even (Canucks got hammered in the 1st period). Shots on goal were very uneven though.
Once again, Bryzgalov making big stops to keep things calm in the third period for me although I wasn't too keen on him playing without the neck protector.
