As a Penguins fan, my inquiring mind wants to know...
Which Evgeni Malkin will show up this season?
The superstar who can dominate when he wants to?
Or the one who just coasts around the ice every other shift?
With Sid being out, this is his chance to become a leader, and put the team on his back, similar to what he showed signs of back in '08-'09.
Similar question about Fleury...the guy who started last season horrendously, or the one who turned it around and played his @$$ off?

Pretty good opener for the Flyers. The crowd in Boston was amped up for the Stanley Cup banner-raising and celebration. Marchand opened the scoring mid-way through the 1st. (He also scored the final goal for the Bruins last year.)
Flyers scored two goals in the final minute of the 1st to take the lead. Giroux scored with about 50 seconds left in the period; then Voracek scored with less than 3 seconds left. That 2-1 score after the first held up as the final.
Bryzgalov looked real sharp at times, but Timmonen bailed him out on one that looked like a sure goal. The Bruin had an open net, but Kimo made the save and cleared the puck. Pretty good, entertaining game. Tim Thomas looked real good, as usual...
Edit: Toronto knocked off Montreal 2-0. Pens and Canucks are tied at 3 with about 3 minutes left...

I thoroughly enjoyed the PHI@BOS game. Timmo playing goalie was intense but in all fairness the Bruin was in a falling motion and couldn't seem to get the shot elevated. A very fortuitous play for the Flyers.
Coulturier I thought was impressive,...playing on the PK and getting time towards the end of the game. I like the game that Read played as well.
I liked what I saw in terms of team toughness when JVR got in Chara's face for taking Giroux hard to the boards (which I have no gripe about due to Giroux's positioning) and then Coburn making sure that Chara didn't kill JVR. The fact that JVR was willing to take on a monster like Chara shows the leadership and team first attributes that were disappointingly absent from the leadership group in the last half of the 2010-11 season.
Luckily Giroux didn't suffer any injury,...the hit looked a lot harder then it actually was and Giroux was as much to blame for going into the boards for the line he took as Chara was for not letting up.

Loved what I saw from both teams with playoff intensity! Flyers looked like they really wanted to spoil the Bruins' party and the Bruins really wanted to win it in front of the home crowd. Kimo's save was awesome, yeah the Bruin was falling away, but even if Kimo didn't get there, Bryzgalov's glove was going to be there. Awesome play all around.
Seeing the Flyers play in preseason as a much faster, amped up team, and then the first game... looks like it's going to be a great season to be a Flyer fan.

I think you guys have nailed the Flyer-Bruin game. I was glad that they gave the kid, Jordan Caron, the start instead of Pouliot.
After the Red Sox collapse, everyone was ready for hockey season to begin around here.
I am not too worried about a Stanley Cup hangover (if any one would still be hungover it would be Marchand
and he scored the first goal) , however, I am worried about the parity in the NHL, there are a lot of teams with the talent to take it all.

Pens hit on two of three power play goals last night, which is some great news. Between Boston and Pittsburgh, I think both of those teams scored two power play goals all last season. 
I like what I saw last night on both ends of the ice overall. The Pens did look a little soft when Vancouver started pressing the blue line at the end of the second and third, so that does sort of concern me. This is one game, so I'm not going to read too much into it good or bad.

What was fantastic about the Flyers game last night watching the third period was seeing the Bruins press hard and having a sense of peace for once, feeling that the one goal lead was going to stand. THAT was a strange feeling!!!
Especially Read with the really bad giveaway high in the slot on the penalty kill, Bruins wasted no time firing the shot and Bryzgalov was like... "No biggie..."

I don't know if I can take reading the Philly papers online this year with both Pronger AND Bryzgalov quotes...

To think Philly did not pick him up from Anaheim a few years about for a 3rd and 4th when he was offered because they thought Biron was the answer. UGH!!!

Biron is a Career backup.
Bryz looked sharp after that first goal he allowed. Timmonen made a number of strong defensive plays which made up for some Un-Pronger like mistakes by Pronger. I think he is a little rusty after having all the time off from injuries but he'll be back on form in no time.

I've long been singing the praises of Claude Giroux. What an excellent player he is (I thought I heard Jagr refer to him as a little Mario Lemiuex).
Man I hated the skills of Jagr when he was a Pen and he never really seem to fit in on the Rags or DC squads he played on,...but boy oh boy I'm glad to see him in a Flyers uniform.
The main question mark for the Flyers seems to be team chemistry. What I saw is a promising start to building that chemistry and I think it's only going to get better and better (it's not like there was really any chemistry last season with the exception of the BHL line).
This is going to be a good one.

This guy slays. I have a feeling the Fans in Philly are going to love this guy almost as much as Parent and Hextall.

Pronger is definitely showing rust. He can be rusty. His rusty version is still so much better than so many others. Plus it's good to just see him yapping out there at people.
I think of Giroux as more of the Forsberg the Flyers never had. The guy has sick puck handling skills in traffic and excellent vision.
