Damn, Mike, you sure are feeling a bit testy today for a guy whose team won in a shootout last night. :D Give us a break. We NEED something to look forward to. It's been 36 friggin' years since we've won a Cup. Allow us a little bit of hope and excitement. Frustration has been in our blood for a long time.

And nobody has said that we'll win it all this year. It IS a possibility, but every team in the league has that same possibility at this point. Hope springs eternal... ;)

Haha, it's all good my friend, just having some fun with you guys. Plus, I am operating on about three hours of sleep. I had a four plus hour drive home after that game last night and of course it had to go to a shootout. I'm sorry if that came across wrong. I like Timo and I like a couple of your other guys, especially Simmonds.

At least we can be buddies in the NFL thread still, just not much to be happy about over there.

I think of Giroux as more of the Forsberg the Flyers never had. The guy has sick puck handling skills in traffic and excellent vision.

Having your captain playing is definitely important. I think at this point they will probably limit his ice time.

Yes,...I have always seen Giroux as the 2nd coming of Foppa.

Watching the Senators/Wings game tonight. Boring!

Another nice win for the Flyers tonight in New Jersey. Bryzgalov picks up the 3-0 shutout. Last year the Flyers went the entire season without registering a shutout. Good to get that monkey off our backs in just the 2nd game of the season.

Giroux got the first goal, just like in the 1st game. This time it came off a sweet backhand feed from van Riemsdyk. Simmonds and Matt Read got the other two.

Edit: Oh yeah, I was looking at the schedule and December looks to be brutal for the Flyers. Thirteen games that month, and ten of those are on the road...

Pens tried to give another one away tonight. I'll take the win, but Calgary pushed them around the ice. It was cool though to see Malkin mix it up with Glenncross. Then again, it was embarrassing to see the ref take out Letang.

Flyers dominated the play,....nice full game effort. I like seeing rookies (Matt Read in this case) get their first goal (even if they are 24 years old).

Coulturier once again looked great playing clutch minutes on the PK and making solid defensive plays. I like this kid a lot. Hopefully he can keep up his pace.

Giroux has two goals in two games and that line just has something magical going on. It's gonna only get better I think.

Pronger seems to be settling down a little bit but is still making some mistakes/getting hurried by the opposition a little bit. I think commentary mentioned something like 4 surgeries in one year. Yikes. If he can keep healthy he will find his stride, but the defense is more then capable.

Do wish the Flyers would not have gone 0-8 on the powerplay, but nice that they went 0-5 on the PK.

A weird development in the Betts transaction.

BETTS BACK WITH FLYERS
As a result of a ruling by the National Hockey League today, center Blair Betts is back with the Flyers after being claimed off of waivers by the Montreal Canadiens last week.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made the following statement:

“After the waiver claim, Montreal exercised their right to a physical examination of Blair. Apparently, they found something that concerned them and had asked the league to void the waiver claim. Blair is back on our roster as of today.”

Below is the full statement by the National Hockey League regarding Blair Betts and the Montreal Canadiens:

Forward Blair Betts, who was claimed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens from the Philadelphia Flyers on October 5, has been returned to the Flyers, per NHL By-Law 11.8 (a), the National Hockey League announced today.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman rendered the decision after reviewing submissions from both Clubs. By-Law 11.8 (a) states: "The Member Club acquiring a player by waiver claim shall take an assignment of the player's contract. Nevertheless, if the Commissioner determines that a player acquired by waiver claim is not physically fit at the time the claim is made, the Member Club making the claim may refuse to take an assignment of such player's contract and the request for waivers shall be cancelled."

In reaching his decision, Commissioner Bettman stated: "While it is clear that both clubs have acted in good faith in this unique situation (i.e. a waiver claim), I am not prepared to dispute the conclusion of the Montreal Club doctors that Mr. Betts was physically unfit to play at the time of the claim. Therefore, it is my decision that, per League By-Laws, the appropriate resolution to this matter is to restore the parties to the position they were in prior to the waiver claim on Oct. 5."

Couturier is going to be a beast for the Flyers. Glad he slipped to #8 in the draft. He's a steal at that pick. His play on the PK is fantastic, especially when he was playing without the stick last night. Lots of poise, knew what to do, when to make the run for a new twig, and then the play to clear the puck... great work for a rookie and such calm.

Glad to see Read get his first so early.

I forget which writer it was, but saw an article hoping the Flyers would get an early season shutout to end the string and the writer specifically picked the Jersey game against Brodeur for the game to do it against. Bryzgalov now with 0.50 GAA and 0.977 save % to start. Good way to get Philly behind him.

Now to have to wait until Wednesday for Vancouver and the home opener.

Bryzgalov is really going to make a difference in Philly. So far he's playing up to his reputation and then some.

And in news that shouldn't surprise anyone after last year's playoff series, the Bruins and Lightning continue to play games that are great to watch. The B's benefitted from Tampa playing two games in two days, but the game was closer than the 4-1 final and it was classic up and down the ice play that makes other sports look like bingo in a dingy basement.

Bryzgalov looked a bit shakey in preseason and was beginning to worry me as an athlete that looked for the big contract and then slack off. But now it looks like he's switched to regular season mode. Hopefully he has a new better switch when the post season comes around this year with a better team in front of him.

The Pens PP disappeared against a young, fresh, and fast Edmonton team. Malkin was a late scratch with the mysterious lower body injury, and Johnson in goal, all adds up to a shootout loss in Edmonton. No biggie to lose a game like that one.

Edmonton looks rough around the edges, but they are really fun to watch. Maybe I'll adopt them as my Western conference team instead of Calgary.

Well, the Flyers have cleared the cap again with the whole Betts fiasco, now they need to figure out what to do to get back down to 50 contracts again. Also there seems to be a question whether Betts has to be on the Flyers' roster or can be on the Phantoms until his shoulder issue is resolved.

The Wings look good early with lots of contributions from the youngsters. Healthy, they will be right in the mix. I thought White was a great pick up for the power play and in the wings system he may have a great year.And remember they are one of the few contenders with cap space for a mid season addition. Picking up Conklin as a backup will be a big help for Howard thru-out the season. I thought he overplayed last year with Osgood hurt.
