Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Second Period

JVR's injury woes continue.

out 4-6 weeks after taking a Jurcina slapshot off his foot

Lavy's timeout to wake up his team was a good move. Flyers need to come out with more jump. They've given up the 1st goal far too often in the past 6 weeks or so.

This .500 hockey they've been playing is frustrating to watch. They win one,...then lose one,...then win one,....then lose one. That's not gonna win them any playoff rounds. I'd prefer to see them string together some wins and start climbing back into the standings. That third goal that Okposo potted,...Bryz's stick got tied up with Schenn. A rookie mistake I think,...but had that not happened,...Okposo probably doesn't get that one through. Hard to fault Bryz on any of the pucks that got by him.

Good prime time hockey game on right now. Dislike both teams but great game so far!

Not the best outcome for the B's, but a good game none-the-less. I'd like to see a B's-Rangers Eastern Conference finals. The Lucic-Krejci-Seguin got another goal - putting these guys together seems to have givem the B's a lift. The goal by Caron was a laser - the kid has talent and now would be a great time to show it.

So is it every other team or just the Penguins that Steve Downie plays like a bum? I was feeling bad for the Avalanche last night as the Pens dented their playoff hopes, but when Downie pulled that stunt with Fleury, I stopped feeling bad.

Enough of that, time to go watch some more of DAL/CAL.

Didn't see that game, but I'd bet dollars-to-pesos that it's just more of Downie's typical MO. Downie is easily one of my least favorite athletes ever.

Good, hard first period in the primetime Caps-Flyers game. Brouwer absolutely crunched Gustafsson into the Caps' bench door, which sprung it open (the Caps bench apparently swears the latch was engaged), and then Hartnell did the right thing by squaring off with Brouwer. Hartnell got in a good shot, but Brouwer slung him down on his backside, so we'll call it a draw. Lots of other good hits on both sides. The Caps had the better of the offensive opportunities, but I see the Flyers coming out hard in the second.

Ray Emery looked really good tonight shutting down the Red Wings IN Detroit. Howard left the game for Detroit, which is bad news all around with Datsyuk still out and Lidstrom hurting.

What is going on in Philly? I heard Timo is out with the mysterious lower body injury.

I thought the Caps looked pretty good tonight. I thought they had the better of the scoring chances, and they matched the physical play of the Flyers (which isn't the Caps forte). The Flyers got one excellent deflection for the lone goal, but I think the Caps have to be happy with the quantity and quality of opportunities they had, despite the fact that the didn't convert on any of them (:scowl:).

If the Caps played like that every night, they wouldn't be on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

I thought this was the strongest game I've seen Bryzgalov play as a Flyer. He made some excellent saves on some great chances by the Caps.

But injuries continue to decimate the Flyers. JVR out for at least the rest of the regular season. Kimonen and Meszaros out indefinitely. Just when their top six D-men seemed to be stabilized after they lost Pronger. (Sigh...)

Bryzgalov definitely looked comfortable out there last night. Definitely looked very good. Never looked panicked in the crease and handled the puck well, knew when to stop it and when to play it. He was defintiely in the groove. Just don't ask him if he felt he was in the groove. He won't know what you're talking about (post gave interview reference).
