Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Second Period

The NHLN guys were raving tonight about how Malkin is the best all around player in the NHL. As much as I like Malkin and the Pens, I still have to disagree. I'll take Datsyuk for that title. No disrespect to the amazing run Malkin is on. Everytime I watch Datsyuk play, he excels up and down the ice his entire shift and doesn't take the stupid penalties Malkin seems to.

Pens look like a winning machine lately. If they keep winning like this, the law of averages says they'll HAVE to go on a losing streak eventually, right? Right????!!!! (Yeah, I know. Just wishful thinking...) :crying:

If the Flyers stay in that 5th spot for the playoffs, they're gonna' have one tough draw in the first round whether it's the Pens or the Rangers. What a tough Division that is. The Devils are also knocking on the door.

They'll be on home ice in Sochi in 2014, too. That's going to be a very difficult team to play against.

True, but Canada still has the more stacked team. Guys like Taylor Hall and Ryan N-S will be fourth liners, tell me that isn't terrifying. The only spot we are a little weak is at goalie, but we won in 2010 with weak goaltending.

Well, of course, we're stacked. But you still have to play the games. Being great on paper doesn't mean you're going win. Remember Torino?

Haha. Well when you put it that way, sure =P

I like how Bylsma has handled Crosby's "second" return. He seems much more comfortable. Look at how Cooke and TK's performance has boosted since his return. It's incredible that he can make those guys THAT much better.

They ran the Staal Crosby Sullivan line a few times last night too. Think Bylsma was trying to get Sullivan a goal against his old team.

Flyers may wind up fourth with home ice over the Rangers the way things are going right now. Rangers are all but done. King Henry is worn out from playing too much and can't carry them any more. That would be a good first round for Philly and get them lighting the lamp pretty good to get them on a run.

What's with this? I'm in Chicago for a couple night's and Chicago doesn't have a game? Was hoping there's be a home game for them so I could take in the 'new' arena. Saw the old Coliseum years ago and thought it would be fun to check out the 'new' arena. How dare they! :rolleyes:

The Flyers keep hanging around and staying in the Pens rear view mirror. Nice win in the shootout. I tuned in the shootout since all you Flyer guys bag on your goalie in shootouts. I thought for sure Philly would lose. Way to go Bryzgalov!

I'm not sure if that was a trap game or what. We've been on a pretty solid roll since before the trade deadline, but it seems like Rinne is starting to slump. Maybe its time for a night or two off before the playoffs.

I missed the game, but after seeing the score, I'm not upset about missing it.

The game was 2-0 before the Preds found their feet. I think they came into Pittsburgh pretty intimidated. They did have a couple good scoring opportunities. Game could have easily had a very different score, but Pens completely outplayed the Preds for most of the 1st period and carried that confidence through the rest of the game.

The Preds certainly didn't play poorly. They are definitely a strong hockey team.

I've been nefariously getting my car worked on, followed by a nefarious walk with my pooch, and then a nefarious nap. But I'm gonna be there tonight! LET'S GO CAPS!

...I was at the last game the Caps played at home against the Jets, the one where the Caps had a 2-0 lead until the final 4:30, where they let in two goals (including that fluke blast from Byfuglien at the blue line that Alzner redirected past Neuvirth) and then lost it in OT. So between that and the competition for the 8th seed, I expect it to be quite raucous!

I like your optimism; but the fact remains, the Flyers have not been able to beat the Rangers even ONCE this year! 0-5 so far with one regular season game remaining. But yeah, the playoffs are a "new" season; and the Flyers would certainly be due for a few wins. It sure helps that Bryzgalov is playing a lot better now. Hopefully he won't do his playoff swoon this year...
