So between that and the competition for the 8th seed, I expect it to be quite raucous!

Looks like you got your wish. After dominating the first 30 minutes, the Caps learned what most of the rest of the hockey world already knows: you can't go into a shell against a good, desperate hockey team (even with a 3-goal lead) and expect to come out and win.

Once Winnipeg got that first goal, they looked great, but with all due respect to them, the outcome of this one lies at the feet of the Caps. They simply stopped playing; I think they had 7 shots on goal in the last ~32 minutes of gametime (including OT). I don't know if it was the players sitting on their heels or coaching staff direction, but the entire Caps organization should be embarrassed.

The only good news is that the Caps actually gained a point on 7th-place Ottawa (we're two points back now), so even with the Caps extraordinarily average play, we have decent prospects of making the postseason.

Well, you could say the Caps didnt play well in the second half of the game and that's why they gave up a three goal lead. You could also say the Jets didnt play well in the first half of the game and that's why they gave up three goals in the first place.

That point Washington earned was indeed a big one. Winnipeg needed to win that game in regulation.

All true. I guess my position is based on my belief that it should be easier to protect a three-goal lead than to earn it. Seems like they did they hard part well and then forgot to do the easy part. Anyway, the Jets deserve a great deal of credit for not giving up.

The bottom of the East is getting pretty tight, with Ottawa doing what they can to give it away, the Caps and Jets holding steady right around the cut-off line, and Buffalo coming on strong. Should make for an interesting two weeks.

But yeah, the playoffs are a "new" season; and the Flyers would certainly be due for a few wins. It sure helps that Bryzgalov is playing a lot better now. Hopefully he won't do his playoff swoon this year...

I like my optimism too. Bryzgalov is heating up. Flyers are getting guys back. Lundqvist is wearing down. Rangers are in their swoon. Add in Grossmann and Kubina to the defense... Giroux seems to be getting back on track... :hyper:

I don't like our chances to get 8th. We have to go into Nashville tonight. There's a potential Charlie Foxtrot.....

Man, we've dropped 2 of the last 3. We aren't exactly on fire right now. I'm hoping we bounce back since they've had a few days to rest from the west coast and 5 games in like 8 days plus the Alex Radulov bit.

I'm hoping to see a determined and focused team tonight.

I'm not so sure it's all that easy to defend a three goal lead in this day & age. Especially when the team that's trailing is also trailing for 8th place by a few points.

I think i'll take Kari Lehtonen over just about any other goalie right now- keep in mind the D core in front of folks like Rinne, Fleury, et al...Dallas is pretty bottom of the league in terms of size and tenacity in their own zone. Without Lehtonen- the stars are already on vacation.

I agree with you. They haven't beat this team, they beat the other flyers this year. lol. And they came into our home and won our winter classic. Nothing would make me more happy than sending the rangers home empty handed.

About time. I'm getting pumped but at the same time because of our history theres a cynical part of me that knows we'll find away to screw this up. lol. Bryz will be our playoffs. If he keeps this up we are nasty and have a good chance. I am really happy with the way we are trending and getting healthy.
