Official 2015 NHL Playoffs Thread

Round 2 is underway.

Rangers were controlling play for long stretches. They can't afford to take penalties though. It's going to be a tough series. Bad blood stirring already.
That boarding non-call at the end was brutal. But, they got sloppy. Should not have let that happen.

...and right at the end of the game, NBC felt it necessary to replay Joel Ward's goal with ONE second left in game 1. I stood with my fingers in my ears doing that little kid thing, hollering LALALALALA with my eyes closed! My wife called in to see if there was something WRONG!

Curling is a beautiful thing, and baseball will always be my favorite sport...by an inch. I never have been much of a motor sport guy, and (being an American) I watch football most every weekend during the season...more college than the pros these days. I never had the legs or the wind to play basketball...I played pond hockey all winter instead. Perhaps, if I'd been born in the mid-80s instead of the mid-50s, I'd be all about snowboarding or skateboarding, but I wasn't. All that said, these days, every time I sit down to watch an NHL game I am reminded that I've always believed that these guys are the greatest athletes in the world...simple as that. Seeing anyone do anything at the very pinnacle of their powers is invigorating, but there is just something unique about hockey...and Playoff hockey is even MOE BETTAH!!! One goal, one tick off a stray skate, is all that separates these two teams. That's just fantastic!

Wow, 1-0 playoff hockey. So awesome!

In other news New Jersey landed Ray Shero as their GM. Rumors started that Boston was going to interview Shero as well. Shero would have done awesome in Boston.

That was a helluva hockey game! (I can only think of ONE THING that could have made it any better...)

I was flipping between that game and the Red Sox - Rays game. Big mistake, should have kept it on the hockey - saw the entire end of the 3rd period - what an onslaught by the Rangers and at times scrambling but ultimately effective defense by the Caps. I hope this series goes to 7 games - ya gotta love 2 talented evenly matched teams putting it all out on the ice.

After following the Flames since they moved here from Atlanta in '80 this is truly the most remarkable game I can remember. I'd gone to bed in disgust after the "no goal" wasn't overturned despite it being obviously in capped with a penalty with only 2 minutes left. I thought "they're done, good effort, beaten by a better team, etc." They really are the "no quit Flames." Here's a shot of Backlund et al after the OT goal (Ducks were going to be penalized - Flames had extra skater on and scored at 4:50).

If the Flames had lost there would be no shortage of Controversy for their fans--the 2nd Ducks goal, the disallowed goal and so on.
Interesting that Ducks fans are also kicking up a fuss.

The Flames wanted it more.
I hope this keeps going into game 4 and we have an entertaining game.

But the Habs down 3 games to none with a goal scored just over 1 second away from OT--that has to hurt.

Holtby is a freaking magician in the crease for the Capitals and the entire team is feeding off of his energy.

I want my Hawks to win and it's almost certain they'll be in the final four, but if I had to bet based on what I see with 8 teams still playing, I'd give Washington the best chance of hoisting the cup this year.
