I saw a picture of one that had another triple coil in the neck position. I always thought that was a cool idea.
I'm seriously considering ripping the frets out of my 300 and doing a refin. Maybe adding a split p pickup or something also.

I put another ATK triple coil in the neck position of my 305, thanks to TB'er Jamie Funk, who had one kicking around.

I don't like 3-way switches on bass, so in order to control the second pickup, I inserted an EMG active blend pot between the two pickups and the input of the preamp. Works a treat- very quiet, and no dip in the middle (as opposed to most passive blend pots). The EMG blend also seemed to improve the overall sound of the ATK preamp, making it a touch more articulate.

The ATK at the neck sounds very full when soloed, but still has more growl and detail than the "woofer pickup" on a Gibson EB-0. Quite a useful tone for fat, sustaining whole-note lines.

When blended with the bridge pickup, you get a very wide range of tones, especially when you start working the EQ. This is probably the most versatile bass I've owned. Goes all the way from Reggae to edgy EBMM territory.

My 2nd ATK arrived today via USPS/Canada Post.:hyper: So now I have a ATK 200 and a ATK 300.(both new) So is there a difference in sound between the two??? Well,,,,,not really and I am suprised. The ATK 200 have more volume at full tilt than the ATK 300 (amp controls same for both) but with the 200 having 2 humbuckers and the 300 having triple coils, I thought there would be a significant difference. So now I have to decide which one I will keep and which one I will sell...... Any thoughts:help:

I would try to keep both if I were in your shoes but if one must go I would put the black pickguard on the 300 and keep that one.

You suggest both..why?? Where they look and sound so similar what would be the advantage? And no I did not adjust the gain pot on the 300's preamp,, I was thinking of doing that. I looked at the 200's preamp and did not see any trim pot at all. I am not trying to give you a hard time just curious about your thoughts. Thanks Laurie

One can act as the perfect backup to the other when playing gigs. Also, they're ATKs... a not very well known or popular bass that has been sold at ridiculous blowout prices in the past and that may happen again in the not too distant future. That alone makes their practical worth more, to someone who can appreciate them, than their monetary worth by selling. I'm guessing there was a reason you bought a second ATK and to get rid of one of them will be a loss you may regret in time.

Those are the reasons I wouldn't sell either if I were in your shoes.

AAAAA,,I see now. Great comments and thoughts..some of them I never thought of. Now I bought the ATK 200 because it was such a great deal ($200.new) and I am impressed with the sound of it. I asked questions about how it differed from the 300 and some people thought that because the 300 has a triple coil and the 200 had double humbuckers..the 300 would sound better,superior than the new 200. So I bought a new 300 to compare and I expected to hear a difference between the two which I really don't. My previous thoughts were to keep the one that sounded better and sell the other one,,but you brought up some really good points and I may have to change my plans. Thanks Laurie. BTW the neck between the two feel the same.

Just took a look at your picture, and the first thing I notice is one of your ATK's has a Rosewood neck, which is the 200, right? That alone is reason enough to keep them both, as the Maple neck is standard on all 300's. Adjust the gain-pot as mentioned above on the 300, that way you'll have more of a tonal difference between the two... nice to have the two necks as an option! Besides they look cool side-by-side....:cool:

Thanks for all the comments guys and you know Six,,you are right thay do look kind of cool side by side.:ninja: The ATK's I got for what I think is a decent price,,(both new) $200 for the ATK 200 and $245 for the ATK 300 plus shipping and tax for both. I feel that these are great guitars for the money,,even at regular selling price. Very underrated IMO. So after all the suggestions I think that I will keep both basses..I just hope my American "P" does not get jealous.:bassist:

For the combined cost of your two ATK's - $445 - you will be hard-pressed to find a better bass at, or under, that price. Although people either love or hate ATK's (mostly for the look, not the sound), there is certainly a mythical element to them.... I always get people asking me what the heck that bass is when I play it out; especially here in Hawaii, as there are very few of them here, and I know everyone who owns one. Why? Because I convinced them to buy one when a good deal came up on eBay!:) So there are only three here that I know of... though one got sold and went to the mainland, then I convinced a lady bass player here to buy a Red Sparkle ATK recently, so we're back up to three!

Mine was on the tour bus with Rob Zombie back in the '90's... so it's got a bit of history to it...

You are corrrect in the previous post Six,,I has seen ATK's in the past and never gave them a thought. Then on a whim I bought the ATK 200 and I thought "WOW What a sound!" Now I am bitten and I want a natural one too (200 or 300 does not matter) so I am constantly searching the internet for ATK's. "Hello my name is Laurence,(Laurie)and I am addicted to Ibanez ATK's !:bassist:
