Well,, I have a problem. After years of lusting for a Fender American Bass,,(since I was 18,, now I am 55) I have come to determine that prehaps I do not need a "high end" bass guitar. I mean I do like my Precision,, light,really slim neck,but I find that with the ATK I have better tonal range. Last night I almost pulled the trigger on yet another Ibanez ATK bass (natural) and I really would like to have another. I have really been taken by this instrument,,the sound,,the style,,the controls,,what can I say I am smitten. I have coming in the mail a Squier P Bass Special that is in decent shape ($122.00)and another P Bass Special (mint body from Master Bass) and a USA J/P-90 neck from Meatwad. So should I keep my American Fender Precision??? Thanks for all opinions.

You can never have too many basses. One of every shape, size and color. That's my goal. I just picked up an AmStd P bass, I'm still GASing for an ATK though. Perfectly normal.

Yes you should... and you should get whatever other bass you want in addition to what you already have. Bass ownership should only be lightly questioned once the count gets into triple digits.

As a self professed Fender hater I'd say sell it to the highest bidder! However the softy in me says get your dream bass and keep the basses you have Fender or Ibanez or whatever else they may be.

On the one hand, you obviously dig the ATK, but if you're still snapping up P-bass variants, there must still be something that you finding appealling about them.

Personally, I'm not of the "all P-basses are the same" school. With what you have coming in the mail, I wouldn't do ANYTHING until you have at least a month or two to dial the new ones in and check them out. You might find that you end up keeping the ATK and one of the Specials, it might turn you into a diehard ATK guy, who knows?

The one thing that's for sure, is that if you dump your Am P prematurely, and then realize that it was The One, you'll be kicking yourself for weeks.

Thanks very much for your thoughts guys. I will think about all my options before I decide. Now with the 2 other basses coming,that will give me 5 in totalmost I have ever had. The frets on my new 300 look a bit tarnished,,should I try to clean them or leave them as is?

Do the older ATK 300s (MIK) have the battery in the control cavity? Looking at a sunburst/maple on CL.

EDIT: It's a 90s MIK alright. Truss rod access at the headstock and battery in the control cavity. Hmm, possible NBD for me.

I might pass on it. It's local, but still 70 miles away. If the price doesn't come down a bit ($325), I'm gonna pass on it. The price of GAS is too damn high!

i sold my atk300 2 years ago. tried other stuff. kinda regret it. so i bought another atk again. now i want a 5er atk.
for me and my ears and my wallet, ive realized, once you go atk, youll never go bk.

Have you tried Ibanez directly? That's probably your best bet.

I agree, I have a 305 and I am completely GAS free in the 5 string department.

I'll be 49 next month and have wanted a Precision since 1986, after playing my '74 Ric for 3 years and wanting "the fatness" of a P. I killed my P GAS this January with a G&L SB2. If that helps.
