Hello guys,

I bought a nice 405 ( blue transparent), very cool bass.
But I didn't found anything about the different positions of the switch ( 5 positions ).
Is somebody have a manual or I diagram with the different possibilities.

I've made mention in the past of wanting to find a left hand ATK305L 5-string... well, the search is finally over!:hyper:

Through a member of the LeftyBassist.com • Index page forum, I was sucessfull in bidding on one that was selling through eBay in Europe, specifically in Germany. Here are a couple of pictures the seller had posted... when it finally comes - after the long process of going through shipping, customs, etc, I'll post up better pictures, and tell you more about the whole process. Needless to say, I'm one happy camper... it's been a three-year search!

BassmanM, you're right! I bought mine from a seller in Dortmund, Germany. It's been shipped to my forum "friend" in the Netherlands, who is going to take the neck off to reduce the size of the package and forward it on to me here in Hawaii. According to him, Ibanez only offered the left hand 305L in this color, known as Trans-black. Not a lot of them were made, although I don't know how large the run was. He also said that after the initial success of the ATK series in the first couple of years, production was moved to Japan, where build quality improved. My ATK305L was built in Japan, and yours most likely was too. If your serial number starts with "F" it was made in Fujigen, Japan. Will let you know more as the story develops.....

Hey guys. Its been a long time since I've checked in! All the atks look fabulous. I am working on a buddy of mines at right now. It was the black magic unicorn fart dust sparkle finish. Now it is almost all the way stripped after a month of work. The grain is actually nice under there! I plan on leaving the ah grain open, staining it dark walnut, and refinishing with thin tru-oil. Its how I did one of my telecasters. He can't wait. I will get pics when its done!

My question to all of you still on the thread, does anyone want to trade MY white pearloid pickgaurd for YOUR b/w/b pickguard? Its the newer atk 305 variety with the truss rod cutout at the heel of the neck. I figure its easiest to ask here in the thread. Hope someone is interested. Also unfortunately I will be letting one of my 3 atks go soon. I will be putting up an ad for my trifade at 305 in the next week. You guys are first on the list to know! Thanks

You're right, mine was made in Japan in 1997. However, as far as I know, production of the ATK started in Japan and then moved on to Korea where the 400s and 405s were also manufactured. Ibanez then stopped production for a few years. When the ATK finally returned, probably due to popular demand, it was manufactured in Indonesia. At least, this is what I heard. If any Ibanez experts know better, let us know!

Anyway sixway, I guess you have a great bass coming in! Let us know as soon as you receive it. And don't forget the pics. ;)

Depends on what you like.

I like them to mimic my amp settings to me it balances out everything.
Though if you want that distortion effect to come through slighty pump up the treble knob then slightly reduce the treble signal on your pedal. It to me never fails to tear someones head off. But, then again I play in a punk/hard rock/metal band.

Edit: Are you talking about the switch? If so I almost always have it on Precision mode. Flipped toward the neck as far as it'll go. That sounds good for almost anything.

@Justin: Tempting but, the b/w/b pickguard is the only visual thing I like about my ATK305 in triburst. I still don't know wether to refinish it or sticker it up. But, if I sticker it I'll start with the pickguard and a Slipknot logo sticker.

"X" I believe Follow1 is referring to the trim pot in the control cavity on the circuit board. with that in mind, take the cover of the control cavity, set all of the EQ knobs to the falt detent, plug the bass into your amp, and play for a bit. Then, using a small screwdriver, turn the trim-pot knob back and forth until you get the tone you want. Easy!

no worries at all. its not my bass, its my buddies. he got it durin gthe blowout, the nasty black sparkle came with the white pearloid guard, and we want a black one for the new finish.

PSA: unless you want a headache for 2 months like I've had, do NOT strip the finish off an atk...at least the newer ones. the finish has been SO thick it has actually lost almost 1.5lbs. I am finally down to the sealer coat and the next few days its coming off. pretty nice ash grain for being painted too! pics to come!

I'm enjoying your story! I'm a lefty, as you can tell from previous posts on this page, but last year I bought a right handed ATK305L - in Black Sparkle (I like it by the way!), just in case I couldn't find a left hand 305. The intent was to make my own left handed body, have it painted to match the Sparkle headstock, and transfer the neck, hardware, pickups, and EQ to the new body. As you can also see from my latest posts, I don't have to do that now, because I have my "new" ATK305L on the way from Germany!

I'm going to keep the Sparkle bass though for my right handed friends... 'cause it sounds great! I've got to agree with you on the thickness of the finish my '95 Amber model is the same way. Plus, I bought a left-hand Cort body off Craigslist for $20, which has a big chip out of the finish on the bottom curve... same thing, that finish is at least a 1/4" thick! Now I know how to make my 11lb ATK300 at least a pound lighter! Ain't gonna do it though! of course, pictures are in order once the project is completed.... by the way, here is a cool site for pick guards I found - you have to click around a bit, but there are some very cool guards on there!

dude that lefty atk is GORGEOUS! I probably should have been taking project photos, but I only recently bought a real camera, so I am not used to taking pics, so they will be taken when its finished and I can get a decent photo shoot with the atk. my buddy is pumped, I have had his bass since jan 1! he comes over all the time, and he has one of my atks as a backup. they are such solid underrated basses.

I recently came across a peavey cirrus 6 from my buddy (its on loan until I buy it) and then also bought another cirrus 6 cheap here on TB. now I really wish I could have an ATK 6er......it would have to be a custom body and neck with all the hardware and electronics moved over, haha. maybe someday ;)

hi! anyone here have buzz problems?
i brought my atk200 to a local luthier because it has a buzz on the 9th to 11th fret of both A & D strings.. the luthier had a hard time levelling the frets because the neck/fretboard is kinda odd, its flatter on the lower register of the neck and goes round as you go higher..
is this normal?
anyone had problems with string buzz?

Sometimes necks just go bad and warp. You might have to have the frets pulled and the neck resurfaced. A friend of mine had to have that done to his ATK300. It was moderately expensive, but it played great after it was done.
