So the slight forward shift of the pickup compared to a Stingray, and the wider than MM-spaced coils were deliberate, allowing it to better bridge the gap between a 'Ray and a P-bass?

Wow. Somebody at Ibanez was VERY clever with the ATK design.

I think this is what Ibanez was going for with the ATK.

You end up with an "easy going" Stingray sound, or a Precision Bass sound that cuts a little better. Best of both worlds (or the worst of both worlds, depending on your point of view).

Heres my Bass..my story..some pics

May I have a number please?...

.... I'd like to request ATK Club member #300 to match my 300....

OOOO can I get #305?....pleeeeeese

Last but not least.... :D

Bass came setup Very well...other than the G-string saddle which seems much lower and has a slight buzz on that 1st fret.In fact it was almost even still in tune.
Which is pretty good for a 10 day UPS ride around the country in freezing and some not freezing weather.

Neck is beautiful.I checked the fretwork...seems fine..Maaaybe a very little "sharpness" on some..but I had to try to find it bassed (get it) on what I heard.

Plugged in into a headphone practice dealio for about 5 mins (ill get more time on my real practice rig tonite)..then on my 410 gig rig this weekend. So far I like what it can do.

All the controls feel VERY solid..I like the "slight resistance" as I turn the knobs...has that new/heavy duty kinda feel..if you know what I mean..doesnt feel "cheap' I guess.
(Compared to my Pbass..that you just look at them[knobs] and they spin freely/loosely)

Tuners are also VERRY smoov like buttaz.Very nice.(I'm used to older/used basses so I don't know how smooth these types are from the factory, but on my Geddy/pbass/squierP..the tuners always felt "loose-ish" if you know what I mean.)
Granted, its brand new, and I've only owned 2 other new basses in my life ...Bc rich NJ series and an IBBY 405..all the rest have been used stuff. So maybe I'm too easily impressed..but this seems really nice.

Haven't weighed it yet, but it is on the heavy side.
However, I used to own a bubinga vette 5 string...and that was heavy.

The looks...
Well..It looks good..but I was never a GIANT fan of the shape of the PG...or even the body shape on these..(just seems big)..still (and obviously not enuff to stop me from owning one)

I do love spakly objects though. and this is sparkly. The difference between this and the red though...from a distance , without being in direct light...it just looks black.Once you get up on it though..this thing sparkles like a holiday.
Some may not like that ..some may.
It does seem as though the headstock has more sparkles than the body though..?...

All in all...I like it so far as long as I can get decent tone out of it using my amp (which I think I can) Then I'm sold.

Last year or so, I had heard a lot about the ATK's and started lookin into them..reviews/youtube ;) and I liked what I saw.I was just about sold on gettin one.(even at the regular price).but never did, I just didnt have the cash.

But now here we are, thanks to the original post about an ATK clearance at MF..I finally got one...and at a great price too.

And I got a cup...cheesy cable....a bunch of very cheap picks, some of which were broken. ;)

Thanks.

:bassist:

Initial review...
Ive posted alot in the "atk clearance thread"..so Heres the quotes...from myself.

I finally got to play my 305 at practice lastnight.

FRIGGIN LOVE IT.
Love the satin-y neck ,the action, even the strings were pretty good.
And this thing thumps...just playin through my acoustic B200 (which I do enjoy anyway)

But, I can't wait to hear it thru 410s....
As of lastnite..this ATK305 has become my main gigger.

I think I will go on over to the ATK owners club now.

Thanks to all..and congrats to some. ;)

Though, I would like to see this thread make it to Part 2. ;)

Maybe it'l bore some of you..but I'll try to give another review based on my next gig..and playin thru my main rig.

Later...Yall
;)

I found that in the middle position it sounds more like a Rick but the P-bass vibe is also there. :) The ATK is definitely a versatile bass.

edit: whoa, reply #666 :eek::D

haha now we know who to come to if we need a spare ATK ;)

nice little collection there. hope you get good playing out of them as I have.
I've been loving the 300. It is a little heavy but it is great bass. I'm feeling extremely lucky to have caught this deal. Mine was near perfect out of the box. There was the slightest buzz on the d string but that was an easy fix. The action is as low it gets and it just plays like a dream. Without out a doubt this is the best deal I have found on a bass. This one is definitely a keeper.

sounds awesome man! yeah the 305 I snagged came setup perfect, almost too perfect. it made me feel uncomfortable not really needing to adjust anything so i raised the action, moved the saddles....and then fixed it all back to where it was... but I set it up ;)

I actually ended up selling it to a friend of mine (more a friend of my little brother) He plays bass as well and kinda has looked up to me. I played in the church youth band for about 6 years, and now he is playing. He has always loved my atks but never had a chance to get one. so I sold it to him for $150, after showing him the blowout for $250 and noting the fact they were ALL gone. needless to say he was undeniably happy. I would be too at that price. he loves it, and I am happy too. I have three atks, Ill be alright for now....

that brings me to my next post, tomorrow my FRETLESS neck comes in. its been gone for 3 months to a guy named Bob Groat. he is Michael Dolan's finish guy. the pics he sent me look great, so tomorrow I get it in and will be fitting it and stringing her up. pics and soundclips to come as well. very very excited. :hyper:

apparently Friday December 3 is the day that a million people are receiving things via fedex. I am about to lose it guys. fedex ALWAYS comes through my neighborhood around 10 am. its almost 6pm and nothing. its been "out for delivery" since 7am......11 hours of delivering things and it isnt here. I want my fretless neck!

ok. it arrived at 6:50pm. whew. wow guys, its great. there are a few imperfections that youll see in up close pictures, but I'm not the type of guy that really cares about these ones in particular. its now a one of a kind ATK. you'll see. its fretless, and its stunning. Ill have pics up tomorrow afternoon and some clips tomorrow night :)

Parents just brought up my ATK and wooh! it's pretty. Action is low but got a little bit of fret buzz. Haven't played it through my rig yet but acoustically it sounds nice. I've been jonesing for some rounds after putting flats on my Jazz and here they are!!

Edit: After playing through my GB Shuttle 9 and Berg AE210, this bass sounds better than I ever hoped for. YES! It has the nice semi slapped sound when digging in that reminds me so much of a Stingray. While it's no Stingray, I definitely don't want a Stingray as much anymore :hyper:
