hey, thought this would be the best place to post so here goes...

i'm after my first bass. i've been playing guitar for about 4-5 years and played bass abit but never owned one. i started a thread on here which is lying around somewhere. i first thought to get either: (obvious) precision or jazz, epi ripper or olp stingray.

and it was on that thread that someone recommended an ibanez atk300. at first i thought 'no way, i hate ibanez's' which i do, from playing guitar i find ibanez ugly guitars and for people that want to shred mindlessly. but as i looked at it more i realised it is actually a very nice looking guitar. ;)

so anyway, in my thread i've kinda decided a P or J will be the best bet, but now i'm also adding the atk to that list. but i'd like some help. one of the many reasons i want a bass is my love for death from above, which if you've never heard are a bass and drum duo where the bass is distorted to hell. so i wanna know, how does the atk sound distorted? i imagine pretty good from what i've heard on the ibanez site in 'attack' mode, but does anyone have any sound clips/youtube videos?

I don't have any sound clips but I but my ATK in the 90's and played it for quite a while in one band. While in that band, I also played a Tobias Growler 5. I moved to a harder band where the guitarist used more distortion, and overdriven Marshals. My ATK was the only bass that could really cut through. Tobias couldn't do it. I've used all kinds of distortion with my ATK and it always sounded deep and solid. You will not be disappointed with an ATK and distortion.:bassist:

Let me introduce mine.
It was made in 96 in Japan.
I replaced the stock pickup with a Bassculture custom pickup.
I've had it for 9 years now.. It just feels like a part of my body:)
It sounds so even and stable but I'd like it much more if it had clearer sound.. maybe it's my amp though.
I'm taking it to my grave. haha:cool:
Anyway.. good to see you friends!

wow man I really like the finish. that pickup looks good too, different, but good. i plan on taking mine to the grave as well :)


note: we are almost at 50 members, something that I thought was impossible, as I was certain there were only 10 or so members on here with an ATK. keep em coming though, and tell you friends, family, neighbors and stranger to get one too!

I just got done tracking bass this weekend and I ended up using my ATK for three out of the four songs that we recorded. That thing is sweet!!! I chose the sound of the ATK over my Stingray! We recorded in an old chapel up in Wisconsin, the place was completely empty. Wood walls and an arched wood ceiling. We weren't going to track the bass there but I wanted to experiment with that big warm sounding space.
I think our engineer had five mics on my cabinet including an ambient room mic and a mic on the horn, not including my direct out from my SWR. A total of six sound sources to choose from. It should sound huge. Hopefully I'll be able to post some sound clips of my ATK soon.
